You should be fine with just a 1-2 drop. If you drop it any more and go to changing up the bumper stops on the frame then you may want to get a different shock.

1/2 drop stock length is fine. See Ruslow/Spike for shocks.

How did you/will you lower the vehicle?

If you plan on replacing the springs with units with a higher average or peak poundage rating (this goes for cutting the stockers, too), then the stock shocks might not be a good idea. . .although they will provide SOME dampening.

The only time the stockers are OK is if the spring rate isn't changed. But even then, the shock will be compressing in a diffrent area than it was designed to. . .and won't feel right to you. That's where Drop Shocks come into play.

At $35 each they are a bargain. And they are designed specifically for dropped vehicles.

Later,

svt360 - from what I've heard and learned:

01 bilstiens are better then 99'-00' shocks
1-2 drop is maybe okay depending on how it's dropped.

If you drop with the Hotchkis kit or another similiar type where the springs are stiffer then stock, they will over power the shocks and the shocks won't be able to control/dampen the springs properly.

If you do a 1-2 drop with like shackles and front coils that are close to the stock spring rate, the stock shocks should be okay and work fine.

Yes,

You can have a spring wound by just about any spring manufacturer to deliver a lowered ride height, but without raising the rate. I know that INTRAX springs do not significantly increase the spring rate (smaller Ø wire) and deliver lower ride heights.
There are too many variables to list here that effect a coil springs rate. I am just saying that I would ask for specifics about any spring's rate characteristics before deciding on shocks.
