gasket sealer on trans pan?

Do you use a gasket sealer on a new 4 X 4 trans pan swap, and how many qts will that swap take? Do you drain the converter?

Thanks

Just reuse the rubber gasket from the old tranny pan, just give it a cleaning to remove any old trans fluid on it. The difference is the 4x4 tranny pan has a drain plug, other then that they're the same.

If your just replaceing the tranny pan, and doing some sort of line mod I'm guessing??? No you don't have to drain the tq converter. I think I used a little under 7 bottles of fluid.

check out Doug's faq link:

It should have links to all the info you need for that mod.

Captain,
Doesn't the 4X4 pan have a higher capacity? I thought it did. If the only difference is the drain plug, why spend $50-$60 on a new pan? -when you can buy a drain plug kit for $10.

Is there something I'm missing?

No flame, just wondering. I am thinking about buying the 4X4 pan.

It does hold a little more fluid. You also need to get the correct filter for the pan.

The pan is only like 25 bucks I think and it is higher capacity ...

I wouldnt use the drain kit simply because the chances of a leak down the road are higher and the potential warranty hassle

Thanks for the plug to the FAQ... If you guys have any info that needs updatingor added to the FAQ let me know...

Doug

It holds a little more than 1 quart of fluid.

I have no clue. I got a line mod, 4x4 tranny pan, and new filter. Somebody told me or I read somewhere that on how many qt.'s it would be, so I bought them and everything worked out perfectly.

And like Doug said, just use the 4x4 pan, it has the drain plug and a much much less chance of leak down the road then just a drain kit.
