If you are referring to breather filters.....They help release crankcase pressure, and prevent the oil from becoming frothy during extensive high rpm scenarios.

And if you use 2 it prevents oil from getting in your intake. Providing you disconnect the 2 hoses from the valve covers to the intake boot

it also relieves crankcase pressure. Don't forget you will ALSO need a chip if you get a crankcase breather.

Just some info. The factory set-up also relieves crankcase pressure..even more at W.O.T. Only advantage with the "breathers" is that they do prevent oil from entering the intake..providing you do BOTH.

Did you replace/remove the Pcv valve? Are you saying that you put breathers in the valve covers?

Soap - do you mean disconnect the 2 hoses and put the breathers on them?

With the metco kit, you plug up the drivers side cover and use the breather on the passenger side.

Problem is that the passenger side is where most of the oil gets sucked up from. There seems to be an oil feed galley right where the PVC valve is. Seems like the catch can I've heard is one solution. Another answer is to take off valve cover an "fab-in" a baffle. It shouldn't be that hard. That way you can get the important benefits of negative crankcase pressure AND no oil in the intake.BTW, it is actually better to have a "draw" (suction) to relieve the crankcase pressures rather than a breather cap. This is a trick that we used to do on turboed drag bikes, where the engine pressures increased rapidly(sort of like a blown 5.4 I'm sure the Ford engineers had this in mind when they ran these hoses right in the path of the incoming air. Something to think about.

No flame--you and me have been 'buddies' since you let me drive your L(old story)--LOL--but, then why didn't the Ford engineers come up with a 'solution' to the unwanted oil in the intake. I think everybody has it, not just those that have pulleys/increased boost.

What would be the 'harm', if any, with using the breathers and foregoing the 'suction/vacuum' affect? I've been running(daily driving/strip racing) with 3 breathers for some time and haven't observed any evident problems.

Btw, got any mangoes you're not gonna eat? Imho, they are the finest-kind of fruit.

Hi Dan! Sorry, Mangos are not in season yet! As far as the oil issue is concerned, I guess they didn't figure on it to happen, and when they realized the issue...decided it wasn't "hurting" anything and didn't consider it urgent enough to tag it for a T.S.B. Who knows? I also think the breathers would be a good enough fix, but for real...we actually picked up 3 -4 H.P. on a 160 H.P. Nat Asp. Suzuki Hayabusa and have seen a few more on the turboed bikes. Thats 2% !! Now I know that the crankcases on a bike are a lot smaller than a V-8, but it does lead me to conclude that these vacuum assisted suckers do work. Now , what this translates to a S/C engine is still unclear, but I'll know it works! Just think of how strong it must be to pull in some oil. Now if you could just baffle that left side......

If you just put one on (with a chip of course) which side does it go on??

Both sides, really. Although most that have one , stick it on the drivers side..otherwize, you'll fill the passanger side breather rather quickly..see above posts. And make sure you plug the air intake rubber snorkle hole with a grommet or other tight-fitting plug(its the one you pull the plastic tube out of)
