Dumb Question about synthetic oil
Dumb Question about synthetic oil
I changed to Mobile 1 10W-30 synthetic this weekend and all I can say is I am VERY impressed so far. Call me crazy, but to me all Ford engines are louder(not exhaust wise, but just pure engine mechanical wise) than Chevrolets. I first noticed this when I purchased a new '94 with a 351 and my friend purchased a Chevy with a 350 the day before. His engine was much quieter throughout the RPM range. I not talking about knocking or piston slap, just an overall engine sound. Anyway, the synthetic oil seemed to shut everything up tremendously. Am I crazy thinking this, or has anyone else noticed it.
Also, I installed my lower pulley, and all I can say is DANG that front factory pulley is hard to get off!!!! When I finally got it to break loose, I had both feet on the left frame rail, and was pulling with my whole body to break that thing loose!!! It was all well worth it when I finally got the pulley on. I had to make my own engine lock to hold the engine firm enough to really bear down on the front pulley.

Thanks Fritz,
I was beginning to think I was the only one that had heard this difference. I am greatly pleased with the quietness of the beasts power plant, that is until I wake it up when I nail it!!!

That is very interesting! I am glad to hear that it quiets it down. Not that mine is THAT loud, or anything. I plan on changing my oil this weekend to Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend, and then I will be switching to Mobil-1 10w-30 (it should have 10K by then). I will let you guys know if I notice the same thing!

Dan I would love too, but until I get the new plugs I will refrain from a possible engine detonation.
Trying to order them now. JL is not home and Sal is out.

Before I moved here to Alaska, I thought that synthetic oils were just a waste of money. The first time that our car would not start at negative fourty degrees, I switched and have never gone back. I run my L and my Grand Prix GTP with all synthetic fluids. Mobil1 5W-30 motor and synthetic tranny to be exact. When it is really, really cold up here, there is a short period of time when the engine starts that there is little or no oil up in the engine because it is soooooo cold. Well, I can tell you from personal experience that with the synthetic oils, that period of time when the engine is getting wear and tear, is much shorter because of the synthetic fluids.
