trans line mod = no quiker et?
trans line mod = no quiker et?
am i wrong in assuming ,i hate that word, but how will a transmission line valve mod lower your ET time? firmer shifts yea .but how will that decrease your ET. time? if it ****s firmer does that automatically mean it will shift faster? maybe less clutch drag = quicker ET ?
you may see a minimal inscrease in times. nothing big though. faster shifts theoritaclly(sp?) should mean faster times but i dont think its enough to even drop a tenth. maybe i am wrong though. someone that has tack tested either the lin mod or psp valve body will chime in im sure
next question
since i am not going to do any mods ,other than the airbox = little extra ram to stock setup, why would you go to the trouble of installing the line mod? just to spin the tires more or what?,some of these So called mods make me wonder???????
Besides the fact of being able to chirp the tires hitting seconds gear
, you really don't want very much slippage in the tranny under full throttle with 500 lbs of torque going through the drive train. That's a good way to burn up some clutches.

When racing Koochie Krook in Kinston he said that every time he would start to pull me, my truck shifted it pulled from him just a bit. I have the line mod and he doesn't and thats about all the difference between us. I think it helps a little, maybe a tenth. Maybe he will read the post and give a little info.
The real advantage is it makes the transmission more durable, less clutch slip = less clutch wear. If you do nay kind of mods to the engine, you've basically sentenced your intermediatle plates to death row, with about a year's worth of appeals before they hook up the IV, A line mod valve saves the plates, but if you really go nuts on the mods, you need to rebuild the clutch packs with more plates and better plates. Get a chip, you need a shift kit, get pullies, filters, air boxes, headers, etc..., you need new clutches, it's really that simple. Th box is designed for the stock engine, and anything more than stock is more than it will take long term.

This is all why the torque reduction is in the program. Reduce the torque for .400 sec to allow the trans clutches to fully engage before the full torque of the motor gets to the transmission clutches in the next gear. Remember this feature REDUCES slip not produces slip. Spool valves try to reduce slip by banging the clutches with more pressure. Upping the trans pressures with the chip also get the same effect but do this by putting aditional loads on the pumps.
Bottom line.. If you want to have the trans to survive. Don't slip or bang the clutch packs. Leave torque reduction turned on for the street or accept the ware and tare on the gear box, u-joints and dif. Never forget, these motors make 500 ft-lbs of torque and drop about 2500 rpm in about 1/3 of a sec on a shift.
Hope this clears things up.

thaks for the explanation.
from what i have been reading about Mods they equall too much pain for the gain,i almost fell off the wagon and sentenced my L to an early grave, but the more i read ,the stocker i get. thanks.
I don't say you shouldn't mod the truck, by all means go for it. What I am saying is that to do it right, you need to consider what the mods are doing and where thy'll have a "downstream" effect, one of those places is the transmission. No problem, we can fix that, the more you mod the more you need to fix. But you have to fix it if you want the tranny to last. I have one box out there that runs 900 ft/lbs of flywheel torque and uses 30 weight motor oil instead of fluid, so anything's possible. Mostly a shift kit will help, a good shift kit helps more and good plates help a lot. Adding good plates (more plates, better plates) really is all you need for anything that you'd call a daily driver (hell, almost full race).
Hope this helps,
