Question Cylinder block question

Somebody posted awhile back (I think it was Noel) and said that the 01' and newer 5.4 had a better block casting.

Does anybody know what was changed? Casting numbers?
Do I need one?

I had a nice 5.4 long block given to me and I would like to know if its the "good one" or not.

And....Yes, I drove over my connecting rods last tuesday night and No I don't want to talk about it.

Bad as L,

Compared to your old block, I would say it's a good one. I guess it's not an exclusive 01 club anymore where the rods are concerned. My only question is how much boost were you pushing in terms of pulleys?

Sorry to hear it.

According to my guage, it was right at 15lbs boost ( 4lb lower and 2lb upper) and it was around 35 degrees outside. They say they always run best just before they blow and that was the case this time, the truck never ran better.

I just didn't realize how delicate the con rods are. When the rods broke, I heard the engine rattle for a split second and I got out of it. But I wasn't sure if that is what I heard, it could have been a traction bar rattle or something, so I got back into it and heard it rattle again, this time I didn't have time to lift, it spewed itself all over the place.

For all of you guys that are drewling over the new KB blower please be carefull.......I had just taken my blower apart and did some porting on the case and upper manifold and then made some fixtures to put it on a flow bench. My friend John Haskell at Aire Research did some reshaping of the upper manifold with modeling clay and then later in epoxy. Long story short we ended up increasing flow thru the blower and upper manifold from roughly 490 cfm to 660 cfm. And the truck went nuts. I had the blower back on the truck on Sunday and destroyed the motor on tuesday. (I was trying to get ready for a dyno day).
Now I get to upgrade

Sorry to hear about the motor. I have heard that the 01 blocks have been strengthened but I have not personally confirmed this. I do know that they cost more than the 99-00 blocks so something "should" be different.

Part number is 1L3Z6010AA.

If you wouldn't mind, I would like to talk to you about the porting and manifold work you did. I am interested in doing this but haven't found anyone with any experience. Shoot me an email at jeff.adkins@mail.sprint.com

As of right now, you can't get 01 blocks. Ford has replaced the 01 part number with the earlier part number. That doesn't mean anything was wrong with the newer blocks, or that they will never be available again, just that as of right now, Ford does not have them.

Or maybe when they designed and built the 2001 blocks there was something wrong with them so they only used them for one year and redesigned the block for 2002 year trucks.

The price I have for an 01 is around 795 bucks. It would not suprise me if there wasn't any difference; I haven't really heard of any 99-00 block problems. Has anyone else?

weren't they having problems with the head gaskets not sealing well? I can't remember if it was a cast problem with the block-a few of them- or a problem with the gaskets.
