Question 4#, JDM chip, K&N filter 1/4 mile times???

I will soon put in my new 4# JDM pulley, chip (for 91 octane), TR 5's, breather cap, boost bypass and have a K&N panel filter already. This is for my 2001. No other mods, F1's. What are others running in the 1/4 mile with these mods?

Thumbs up Weedo...

I got the same mods installed at JDM...you will NOT believe the difference. Question for you...who recommended the TR5's? Jim put the TR6's in my truck. Just curious.

Weedo,
Sounds like a good set up!! I have the same mods with the exception of a 2 lb'er which is on order....hoping for 12.8's.

ps I really wasn't trying to be a jerk in that previous post, just trying to point out that 6lbs might be a little much for everyday use!

Good luck on your first runs with her....Hold on tight!

When I was at JDMs getting the same setup.Jim looked at my truck and saw the stock box w/ K&N panel and recommended the air induction to help the truck take advantage of the chip and pulley.Might want to think about it.

I have almost the same mods. The only differance is I have a line mod and I ran on slicks.
You'll like that setup. I agree with blackjack go with the TR-6's.
The TR-5's are too hot of a plug for your mods.

There might be a reason Weedo is running the TR5s.... might have something to do with the way his chip is tuned.

I run the TR5s myself but then again I saw what came out and I was running very rich. The TR5s helped that along with Jim tuning my chip to the Great state of Texas fuel and weather conditions last year.

Realistically, you'll more likely be around 12.8-13.00 with your combo.I recommend you go with more open filter like a conical or gutted stock box.Still a killer time.

Mondo1 - from checking all the times i could on '01's with similar mods, i have not seen any at 13.0. Most seem to be 12.5-12.8. There have been some stock '01's running low 13's!!

Whip - no problem, I hear you, and thanks!

About the TR-5's - They were recommended by many on this board for these mods. But it now looks as if i'm getting some of you saying the TR-6's would be better?? Here's what the JDM page says (basically TR-6's are for NOS Lightnings):

JDM recommends NGK TR5 spark plugs for our non-nitrous using customers, and the TR6s for those customers who use nitrous injection. The TR6s are 2 heat ranges colder. We have found them to have excellent durability, reliability and repeat-ability, and to exhibit quick cool-down times.

So maybe either will work? I'd better call JDM again...

Weedo,

Jim suggested that I run TR-6's because of the heat here in summer time (and the quality gas that we get most of the year). Your setup should also net you about a 12.8-13.0 at Speedworld given the fabulous traction out there (that's sans suspension mods of course). With a relatively similar setup (except for the Bassani cat-back and the single-blade throttle body) I went 12.954 at only 107 mph. Comparing my top end speed to some of the guys running in the midwest and back east I should be in the 12.5-6's.

Dan

Cool

Weedo,

You tell Jim what you plan on running and he will tune for it. As hard as it is for some people to believe that's how it's suppose to work. He can tune for Splitfire's, TR5's or TR6's because he has ran them all and knows their characteristics. The TR5's came into the picture because he saw the performance increase from the hotter Splitfire (a 1 & 1/2 mph increase in trap speed). With the Megaboost Jim was running he thought the TR5 would be a tougher plug. He compared specs with the Split and found the TR5 to be very close.

He proved it wasn't the plugs he had to worry about. It was the RODS.

P.S. Invest in a cooler thermostat like a 160 or 170.

Weedo- Sorry, there are no 13.00 sec flat stock L's. Don't forget your running street tires. And a K/N in a stock box is basically useless. I have a very good running L with that combo and it runs 12.6's-12.8's on F1's.I have beaten other L's with exhausts, and bigger pullies. I could blow smoke up your *** and tell you what you want to hear, but I'm telling you what to expect, so if you do better , it will be a pleasant surprise. Better that than a dissapointment. You'll see.Been there..heard that!

Mondo1 - i didn't say "stock running 13.0", read my post again, i said low 13's (i think the best i've seen is a 13.3, maybe there's been quicker?)
So it seems the 12.6-12.8 that i (and you) have said seems to be about right.
Struck in AZ ran a 12.9x here in AZ with a TB and Bassani (plus the stated mods). I know him though, and i can tell by looking at him that i'll be faster.
