Throttle body-which one can I use?
Throttle body-which one can I use?
I was looking at a BBK catalog and they had listed a couple different throttle bodies for the 4.6L engine.
I'm pretty sure that everyone was using the SVO single blade throttle body set up for the 4.6 cobra. BBK has 4 throttle bodies listed, which one fits? I guess the linkage would have to be changed.
twin 62mm, 1996-02 4.6 4-V/V-10 F-Series 1705
twin 65mm, 1996-02 4.6 4-V/V-10 F-series 1711
Would there be an advantage to having one of these oposed to a SVO or Babolts?

The svo t/b is off the cobra r 5.4 liter ,not a 4.6. You have two choices buy the svo unpolished from ford or buy an aftermarket polished one.I bought mine almost two years ago for 270.00 but ford has raised the price and there were no polished one's then.
im pretty sure that the ones that fit mustangs(4.6's) have the throttle lever upside down and TP sensor is not in the right postiion either. I think you have to grind it off and turn it over and reattach it to work on a L
Anyone else? I would think the BBK(if it fits) would be a better deal than the frpp.
Does anyone with a math degree know how much bigger the the BBK throttle body is compared to BABOLTS or the FRPP?
BBK has two sizes dual 65mm and dual 62mm. Stock size for our truck is dual 57mm.

The FRPP was stock on the '00 Cobra R. I believe it was out before that though. It was being sold to go onto the 4.6 Cobra, depending on year you have to modify the air plenum on them.
I have no degree but, I am pretty sure that BA's or the FRPP is larger than the BBK. The TB lever on the FRPP may be able to be used but, like others were doing, you had to make a bracket for it or something. I personally couldn't see how it was done. I guess it comes down to what you want to spend and what it looks like.
Good Luck

No math degree here per se but I do have an advance degree in high energy Physics for the Uof M. Very simple for you to calculate the area in square inches or millimeters for the round bore throttle bodies. I do in fact know the size of the FRPP and the BABolt throttle body too but just like Ford I care not to share that information. If you are shopping for price I would recommend that you buy the BBK unit. Many ill informed shoppers bought Yugo’s and as P.T. Barnum said there is a sucker born every minute.
Two additional items the BBK in both versions is smaller then the FRPP unit and the FRPP unit was first introduce in 1996 long before the 2000 5.4L Cobra R. If you are still looking for a deal find someone that has a used FRPP for sale. You could get a good buy on a fine piece of hardware and even though it is second best it beats the low price contenders. I know this for a fact as I have bench marked all of the other products. I should post my collection.

What BABolt said.................
My BBK is on my 1997 4.6L XLT and my BABolt is on my Lightning--and I'm not gonna change them
.
Btw, Mike, congratulations on getting your degree from the University of Miami
. All I did was walk thru the campus a few times.

The T/B that Ford offers is much larger than BBK's twin 65. The Cam lever linkage for the throttle will not work on your L. It's set up for a Mustang. You must do one of two things. Either grind off your L cam lever from your stock T/B and the FRPP T/B and switch them or purchase a L cam lever (which I stock). This will allow you to keep your stock T/B untouched. tps will also have to be reversed.
I sell the FRPP version already converted with new cam lever and tps reversed. You can also pick up a billet version from Babolt for about $100.00 more.
