Chip and Pulley ??

Ok here it is, I need some opinions...
I just got a 2# pulley. I have a K & N panel filter and a street chip. I need to know:

1. can I install the pulley before I get chip reburned, will it be ok?
2. run without chip, just pulley while chip is getting reburn
3. just wait and get chip reburned before installing pulley

by the way I'm going to a dyno on saturday 3/02/02

thanks for your opinions, I know I can count on you people!! .....................JR

I don't install a mod until I have a chip that supports it. There are those that will tell you that a 2# pulley is OK without a chip. Maybe so; but, why take a chance.

Wink

I would install the pulley and drive it that way while I sent the chip in for a reburn. Call the tuner first you may not need a reburn for just a 2 pounder.

With a 2lb your chip should be ok. Put the pulley on with the chip and drive it. If you have any detonation pull the chip. You will be fine driving with a 2lb and no chip. I did it for a week or so. No chip the truck is very rich on the a/f so a 2lb won't hurt anything. I do recomend having your chip updated to include all your current mods as soon as you can.

The 99-00's were particularly a/f rich, so you should be fine. Like others have said, listen for detonation, and let your tuner know about the pulley and other mods when you get a chip.

If you follow your advice that would be the correct way. Although many have run it without a problem(including me) that's not saying the next guy won't. Don't sell yourself short, it was good advice. Another week wait is shorter than the time it takes to repair a malfunction.

I have 2 chips for my 2001, the flip chip is tuned for my 2# lower and my 1.5 upper. My single program chip is JDM's very early 2001 program and is not tuned for a pulley.

I have sent my flip chip to Jim a few times, and while I was waiting for my chip I ran the older single chip. I even raced with it and ran a 12.78 with out any problems.
