I plan on driving mine like I stole it after about 500-1000 miles. I have stayed out of the go pedal pretty good up until this point. It has not turned over about 4,000-4200rpm, but I am getting the itch real, real bad. I almost wish I had bought a used one so I could get in the throttle. I don't know if I am doing any good by giving it a break in time. I've got a few friends that say break it in like you are gonna drive it. If that is the case, I'm in trouble.

340miles and counting

Or loan it to us and let us drive it like it's stolen.

Break it in the same way you intend to drive it...

Change the oil after 20 hrs of break in, but do not go to synthetic until around 3K - 5k miles. You will notice a big difference in the way the truck runs in that period of time, with better performance as the engine loosens up.

Torque your sparkplugs at 1 mile, and your lugnuts at 1 week.

Just over 5000 driven like it was stolen miles and no problems so far. Most of those even with mods! I also pull with mine, and SO FAR, only some belt noise and balding tires!!!

I believe svt states the break in period to be 1500 miles. I was easy on it most (97%) of the time and changed the oil after 1800 miles. I had trouble opening up the throttle when I first drove it for weeks .... the adrenaline was so high everytime I started the monster I scared myself too much to get my foot into it :-)

Nothing like WOT the first time, especially on an entrance ramp @ 1am~!!!

enjoy!

John

One thing most people seem to notice

One thing that seems to be common to the Lightning is that they really come alive between 5000-7000 miles. Mine woke up at about 6000 miles and it was a very noticeable seat of your pants difference.

Just wanted to mention it because some people feel their Lighting is slow, relative to other Lightnings, at first.
