Question 4# or 6# on 91 Octane??????

I'm trying to decide between a 4# and a 6# pulley for my (currently) stock '01 L. What i'm wondering is since i live in Arizona where it's HOT most of the year, and i can only get 91 Octane, would a 6# pulley be too much? I'm just not sure if there's a point where certain mods are too much if you can only run 91 Octane. I know the chip will be burned for 91 Octane but........

Your chip can compensate for the 91 oct/6 lb pulley but, I would 'fear' the extra heat that will be generated by a faster spinning s/c. I would go with the 4 lb, if it were me.

With a 6# pulley and a chip tuned for 91 Octane, would it be similar power output to a 4# pulley tuned for 93 Octane being that the tune for 91 Octane wouldn't run as lean?

If it were me I would seriously hesitate to put a 6# in on 91 octane without a thorough custom dyno-tune, and some upgraded internals.

I live in a similar climate (around/over 100 most of the summer). I went to a 3# to start and had numerous problems with detonation, with several tuners, with several reburns. It's possible to get a safe program, but it will take some work.

DB, thanks.

I wonder if any of the TUNERS have thoughts/knowledge on this?

I know a guy with a 4# pulley and he has ZERO detonation with 91 octane.
