What are you guys saying, this new chip by Diablo able us with bad gas (90 octane ) to get more hp and torque without detonation?

I am very curious. Will wait and see what happens.

Since there is only 1 knock sensor located in the valley of the block, how would it know which cylinder is detonating and therefore which to retard?

If Ford can make it work on a V10 spinning at 18,000+ rpm in the Jaguar F1 engine, I can't see why they cannot make it work in a truck engine.
I wait patiently for some innovative developments for the L.

That's a good question DrTriton. As for me, if we've got detectable detonation, let's pull timing on all cylinders to protect the motor. I'd even like to see a light to let me know when this happens. If this were possible I'd know it's too; {Hot, Cold, Low Octane, Humid, Etc.} and would address the situation. That is stay off WOT until I determined the problem.

when the sensor detects a knock it immediately references the crank position and pulls timing from the cylinder or cylinders that are affected. so yes it does control timing from cyl. to cyl..

The answer to your question was in my original post.....This is not new to the auto industry, many of the vehicles use a single knock sensor, and again when detonation is detected the ecu references the crank position sensor ( which triggers the ignition) as to which cyliner it was or is and pulls timing from that cylinder..there is no need to pull timing from all the cylinders..

TZRider,

In my Truck the theft light Flashes on the Dash until I turn Key to start Position.

I think they all do.

Cool

Electricity travels close to the speed of light depending on resistance. Sound travels in the 600 mph range. Lets just hope the sound can keep up with that crank position at high rpm. We're talking milliseconds here. It would be easier to pull timing from all cylinders.

I'll take a let's wait and see approach. I'm an electronics major so I never say never but this also makes me skeptical until I see proven results.

Anybody remember the Caddy 4-6-8 engine. It was a nice idea but what a POS. Some of the electronics on modern cars are a work of art. That's why I take the position stated in the second paragraph.

Glad too see Diablo working on the Knock sensor! What TZ rider is saying is true. I can't confirm what they are doing. I can say that what he is saying in realation to pulling spark on individual cylinders can be done. Even if there is one sensor. As far as the V10 Ford has the ability to do more then you know! Pulling spark on all cylinders seem's logical but it's not in a performance application. If i weren't going to a 4V i would be using this.

It will help out the N20 guys for sure!

Well,Im lucky enough to live 20mins from diablosport and have become pretty friendly with them..As far as cost I dont know what they are going to charge. Also I do know for a fact that if JL does not have it by now it will be a matter of days...I know he was just in town here with one of the tuners at diablosport.I like the program and would recommend it as well as there new flip chip.I do not have the flip chip as of yet but I saw the prototype.check there web site at Diablosport.com.They might have some more info...
