CA smog cops?
Anyone been stopped by the Calif. smog police? I am referring to the mobile smog check units that the CHP sets up by the side of the road. I would dearly love to get a set of long tube headers, and I even know how to get them smogged, but wouldn't do me much good if I got pulled over by a CHP unit.
Good point, I am moving to 29 Palms in May and would also like to get a set of JDM long tubes but, I cannot find them on the California Air Resources Board. Check it out.

When you go to the site select "Exhaust System/Exhaust Modification" and it should give you a list of accepted after market parts. Seach by manufacturer. I sure hope I'm wrong.
Lastly, his headers are a pretty new mod and it may take sometime before he gets on the list.

Doggy,
I haven't seen any smog cops yet.
Would the CHP really know that the L had pre-cats anyway, since those are removed for the long tubes? You would still have two stock Ford cats, and JDM mentioned his headers were going to get a CARB certification. My guess is that they would still pass a smog check with no problem.
I wouldn't do the shiny new high-flow cats, though...

I don't think they can get a CARB cert on the L/T's for a vehicle less than 5 years old. Still have the Fed emission law to get around.
I thought Oregon was bad with their smog laws. Didn't realize the Cal actually has smog cops. So is a smog cop a promotion from dog catcher?

I see them occasionally in La Habra. They are looking for the early 80's cars that are pretty much out of tune and have pollution equipment missing.
If you are moving from out of state, you will have to visit a Referee station to get your vehicle registered in CA. If it has non- EO parts, it may be bounced. By law it has to be. However, I found a guy that just tested my Cassic Roadsters Kit Car. He didn't care what it had, as long as it passed.
The referee can lose his certification and be fined/jailed if the passes cars that do not have exempt parts on them.

Apparently, the Smog cops have been spotted a few times in Milpitas. There is an ungodly amount of ricers around there, and I guess a lot of them remove thier cats...I've heard that the regular Milpitas cop cars are equipped with mirrors on sticks so they can easily see if you've got cats. FWIW.
