Smile New Toy. :)

My new wave of toys for the truck are slowly starting to come in.

I know someone else here picked one of these up, but I just got mine today...

Hey anyone with a 2-DIN install, I could use some pointers. Where'd you get the 2-DIN bracket, how much cutting did you do in the rear of the dash, etc.

Thanks!
Daniel

SonicBlue has set the end-of-life for it because they weren't making enough money so they've been going cheap.

Their store is out of them now, but you can pick them up on Ebay for $250-$400...usually in the 20gb variety...its easy to add a second disk to it too.

Just head to ebay and do a search for "empeg car", 5 or 6 will usually pop up...don't pay more then $400 for a 20gb, that was their last sell price. I got mine for $340.

Pawn,
Very nice piece!!!! Is that 1 din or din and a 1/2?? I dont remember what 2 din kit I used but I had to alter anyway because the screen kept rubbing up against the side of the kit so I had to cut just about the whole cover face plate off. Not too hard Im sure you'll have no problems. Good luck!!

Yeah, it is a car MP3 player. Has a 20gb hard disk in it and runs Linux under the covers, so (if you're a computer geek) its highly hackable.

You can swap out the disks and get up to 160gb in them now, that's enough to hold anyones whole CD collection in one shot...It pulls out so you can easily move it between cars with multple mounting brackets.

It will hook up to a home computer via serial port, USB port or ethernet....very nice piece.

Smok'n : Its a 1DIN unit, but I also have an Alpine IVA-C800, I want to put the C800 in the top spot and the Rio underneath it... my current bracket is only a 1 DIN (with 1/2DIN pocket) unit. I think I am going to need to make something, so I was just looking for some pointers.
