Dragracing Helmet Question

I need a helmet if I'm going to race this year. What brands do you guys like? I prefer something light in weight and comfortable but safe. Any help on *what brands and where* to get one will be appreciated.

Depends on how much you're willing to spend. I love the look and feel of the Simpson Bandit helmets, but $300+ is a lot of money. But it is your head you might be saving. I currently have an HJC, it passes tech, looks pretty good, is comfortable, and it was only $170. Not bad overall.

I got an HJC as well at my local motorcycle store. I think it ran me about 140-150. Mine is plain black, to match my truck.

You pay for what you get. Find a high quality helmet that fits your head. Sounds simple but a good fit is very important. I prefer the fit of Simpson helmets. Inside you should see a "Snell" rating. There are two basic rating. "MA" motorcycle. and "SA" special application. The big difference is the SA rating has a fire resistant liner (Nomex). The SA rating is the prefered/mandatory rating by most auto racing sanctioning bodies.

I got an HJC open-faced helmet for about $100.

It meets all the specs, and you can take a bong hit without taking off the helmet.

I'm looking at the Super Voyager series, right? Is that what you wear Speedin Bob? That particular one seems fairly inexpensive compared to some others. It's not so much the price that concerns me but why spend money when it doesn't need to be spent. The Super Voyager looks like it would do alright for me.

Thanks

'ears,

I'm 99% sure that is what I have based on the location of the vents above the visor and what I paid.

I'll confirm, shoot and post a pic of it tonight.

Now for the helmet cam...

Motorcyle helmets and Automotive helmets are designed for different impacts. Cycle helmets are designed to protect big initial impact not repeated impacts as in a auto rollover. I don't think any of the auto roadracing assoc. will approve of a motorcycle helmet in competition.

Get a $10 helmet if ya got a $10 head. (old Bell ad.)
