Looking into bottom end mod.
Looking into bottom end mod.
I am gonna look into JDM's bottom end kit as my first mod. I think it will pay for it self in the long run.
I was at a nother site and it seems they are going for about $1800 plus a new block, If you choose that route. So total will be in the $2500 range with a new block and crank from ford and misc. parts ect.
So does anyone else think they are going to do this before they mod or just mod first then go for the block after the fact. I would like some input on this.
They are claiming with this set up you can run almost 20 PSI of boost,But it is alot of money and down time for the truck if you don't buy a new block
Guys give you opinions please my 2k2 Bolt needs a mod soon...lol
thanks

Slick,it is cheaper to do now as opposed to later. I went the other route using the stock block but the L is not my daily driver. Anyone planing on running mid 12's or better on a regular basis should build there motor imho.
block first for racing
if you are going to race and heavily mod your truck. Build the bottom end first. If anyone want's to disagree.............for sake of argument, the search is down, but the evidence is all over this and other boards. Not planning on any heavy mods for my truck until after the warrenty is up, then the first thing i'm doing is a lower end build up, and go from there. Both Sal and JDM are offereing these kits. I think PSP was 1600, JDM was1800
here's a link discussing both products and pricing at svt's board

Doing the lower end first? Yeah, I could see that being a good idea. As the other's have stated, if you are planning on doing a lot of mods then why not do the lower end first. If you wait until you think you might need them then you might wait to long. My truck is at JDM getting the lower end beefed up along with a few more mods to go with it. I didn't hurt my lower end with the mods that I ran but with my Quest for 10's I thought it would be a good idea to get it done over the winter.

I would like to prepare for this...lol also What did you have done the manley kit with the new pistons or something different.
I am really interested in doing this I might even sell my R6 to do it all the way,But we will see if not I'll just mod it then blow it I guess

i've been quoted by a local engine builder between 2-3k to do the lower end..........difference being who you use for components. One of the guys on the board is having his done by one of the tuners, i thought the cost was @2.5k. Call either of the tunner, best to hear it from the horses mouth. Bill, definetely let me know when your gonna make your first run up to NE, i wanna see how you and Don's trucks look with the new goodies.........
SLICK0478,
I am not sure about the price your best bet would be to call JDM for pricing, not holding back on you but I think it would be best to go rate to the source, my truck is at JDM getting this done now. I would highly recomend them, they have always treated me great. I know there might be a few people ready to jump in with their negative stories and all tuners have them, and sometimes the tuners aren't perfect and they get some bad comments. We all have to realize that the tuners are just very knowledgeable people that do their best to try to provide us with the best mods for our trucks. And as much as we would like to think, they are not gods, although sometimes I think The JDM team are pretty close.
I am not sure of what rod and piston package that I will have but I am sure it will do the job great.
tallimeca,
I will let everyone know before I go to New England Dragway for the first time this year. I can't wait and I have two goals for this year, one is to get in the 10's and the other one is to get into the 11's on street tires, this year I will be running 20's and might switch back to some 22's a little later in the season.
