A kill that just deserved it....
Just thought I'd post something on a kill that I had last night. NOW... first off I'd like to say that it is never in my intention to kill little cars that frankly don't have a chance. That is, unless it's a car that can actually run... mustang, camaro, corvette, etc., I won't be baited into racing. Well, this certain group of guys last night were just WAITING to be burned. My girlfriend and I were driving home from Blockbuster, and my friend and his girlfriend were beside us at a light following us home. Well pulling up next to me in a RED Eclipse are 4 teenage/college guys. (Mind you I'm in my senior year of High school too) Immeadiatley I knew their intention, the light turns green and off they speed to cut me off because the lanes merge immeadiatley after the light. Well my friend beside me slows down so I can get in the left lane and we come to a stop about 300 feet later at another light. So we're beside eachother. I had my windows about half down, so I could hear most of their conversation. First comment out of the drivers mouth "Oh sh#t did he switch lanes?" Then my girlfriend proceeds to point out a couple interesting things about these guys.
1) These are 4 guys in a RED convertible.
2) They are blasting a pop girl song...Mandy Moore or something like that
3) They are driving with the top down and it is 48 degrees outside
4) They cut me off and knew it.
With all of that said, the next thing I hear beside their annoying music selection is his friend say "Do you know how fast those are?" "Their f^%'in fast man!""Nice truck man!" They yell to me. They keep glancing nervously over, and my girlfriend looks over and says "Please burn them, please, please!" Well I did it a bit subtly, light goes green, I ease it up to twenty-five, alongside them, and then I let the Supercharger do the talking, and leave them in the dust. My girlfriend always seems to get excited when I do that. Go figure

SL - How many track days, Auto crosses or high performance driving schools have you been to ?
Lead by example, my high school friend... You've got a Mondo ride, nothing to prove to a 150 hp car with 3 passengers...
If you're busted in a street race, in a high dollar truck like you have, count on the law throwing the book at you. It's not the way you spanked the eclipse, but rather the events leading up to it that I even mention this to you for. Once you've been to a good driving school, you'll realize just how crappy a driver you used to be and everyone else still is.
Don't let testosterone get the best of you...
PS - I had a '70 442 in High school, and I used it, too
Nice kill ShadowLightning. It's always fun seeing the fear of god on a ricer's face. Way to put them in their place!
I always used to cruise Sunrise, not so much for the kills, just lots of suped-up, more respectable rides like GTs, Z28s, SS's, Saleens, the works. Some fun of course, but everything has its time and place, and the street usually isn't the place for me.
And it sounds like you got a nice girl there, too. If she can handle your obsession with the Beast, she's a keeper!!!
Anyway, nice one again! Go J-High!

runpr,
I went with So-Cal Speedshop's 1.75/3in drop, but it's more of a suspension overhaul as opposed to a simple drop.
This like will tell you everything there is to know about the kit.
So-Cal's Site
Price wise, it's a lot more than the other kits out there, but the quality is unbeatable. Installed, it was close to $1500, but worth every penny. I drove my dad's C5 and the L back to back, and although the Vette is still miles ahead of the L, the truck definately has more of the sports car feel. Taking 45mph offramps at 55-60+ is effortless.
Hope this helps!

Good kill my friend, Reminds me of the time I raced a Mustang Cobra. I was coming home from the Marine Corps Ball and pulled up to a stop light. A white Cobra pulls up with a car load of high schoolers, I assume high schoolers because they were real young looking, needless to say he revved and gunned it at the green light. I punched it and beat him to the next light. It was about an 1/8th miler and I won. When I got home I thought how stupid I was. I could have contributed to drastically changing those kid's lives. I hope they got home OK. I have never street raced again. Recommend if your going to street race, make sure it's only you and the other guy who take the chance with your own lives, not a car load of buddies.
Sorry, Didn't want to put a bad spin on your thread. Just wanted to share a thought. R/S Dennis

Nice
But I'd call it more of a show of power than a kill, since they seemed to be more in awe than in neglect (that your truck is indeed faster.
That reminds me of the time that I came across an 01 Vette. The fellow cut me off to get an advantage in traffic. Well, his gf looked over and saw me grinning. The car must have been what was driving him because it looked like she had tons of mileage. He heard the growl of a thunder storm. He looked over wondering what was up. The look in his eye was that of great realization; He might as well have been in a Geo Metro. "But its still a truck," he said, losing what little ground the checkered flags gave him. I then asked if his salesman had warned him about me, since (at the time) I happened on pretty much each and every vette and beat them (80mph). He had heard of no such warning, so I warned him that I had never seen the taillights of a 2000 Vette, especially with an m6. As the light turned green, I heard him call out "But this is a 2001!" As if that made any difference.
The next few miles of the road were drenched with drool oozing from the intercooler. Thunderous cracks of rage could be heard building up beneath the hood. A mighty storm was in the brewing.
A light turned red, and I was in a merging lane. My foe, had the right of way after about an 1/8th mile. The calm before the strom. It was just after 2 in the afternoon, and the area highschool just let out. Just as the scene at the stop light was materializing, a truck full of h.s. kids were gawking at the truck, then looked back to see what car had the ***** to line up. Only a few cars back was the slick new dark green 2001 Corvette. Their excitement was building. All it took was the sight of the Vette slowly take its place in traffic (it really didn't take much). Pole postition was his, But he cut someone else off! To get behind me!
And so the storm patiently grumbles in the bay until fate brings us another red light. Only then will hell break loose.
Man I have never seen a Corvette get SO MUCH disrespect from so many kids in a Chevy truck!

Funny thing about street racing.
I try not to do it... but sometimes it's unavoidable. It's probably different in a Lightning. Most people who see your trucks don't know what it is. They think "That's a nice looking truck", but they have no idea what is inside.
I drive a black 2000 Z28, with the factory option "appearance package" ; ground effects and spoiler. Everyone who looks at her thinks/knows (?) she's fast. I hardly ever get any revs at stoplights (aside from Mustangs... why do GTs always seem to have a 16 year old punk behind the wheel?)
I did notice something funny. Tell me if anyone else notices this. I never gun it out of a stop... but I do give a little more gas than I should. But alot of times, when I look out my side window, I see some giant SUV, or family sedan pull out ahead of me. I don't know if they realize they're doing this... or if they're trying to keep up with "the kid in the Camaro"... But that stuff never, ever happened to me when I drove a Taurus. It's like no one wants to get beat out of a stoplight by a "sports car"... and whether they know it or not... they always seem to be trying to "beat me"...
Anyone else notice that?

Street racing.....
I'm of the opposite opinion.
I have no qualms about tearing apart some punk in a rice burner who's trying to prove something to his buddies by taking on the "old" Mustang and or the new L.
If he wrecks it and wipes out both he and his buddies...well...boy shoulda thought of that before he hit the gas. Now, I know that that epiphany isn't ever going to happen in the bubble of testosterone that he's surrounded in.
Now, I know there's that whole "race it on the track" mentality. You show me a circuit in Austin, Dallas or Houston that is NOT an oval and I'll go race there.
There isn't one...and frankly....any chimp can punch a pedal and keep it pointed straight. It takes skill, however, to negotiate double Ses and pick out lines through corners.
