Holy moly
I finally got to test drive an L after being told time and again that they are to much truck to test drive and I have decided against getting one from the test drive. Now don't get me wrong the truck, a 99 L was really sweet but the likely hood of getting myself killed or getting locked up for doing really stupid stuff is to great. I drive my Dakota hard and when I drove the L it was hard to keep it under 80. The ride is really smooth but damn the power is scary. To all of you that have or are working on taming an L more power to you but I am to weak. Now maybe if I win the lottery I'll get one but for now I shall settle for the 01' HD that I am working on getting.

thats a pretty bad excuss for a man!
j/k.
If you think a 99L is fast stock, then you need to let me take you for a ride.
I guess some people just can't handle it. You know they do have a thing called throttle, you don't have to be at WOT all the time.

Hey Hey now Killa. It is not that I couldn't really handle it, it is more a matter of not being able to afford it, speeding tickets and tires to name a few. The power was just a system shock after driving my Dakota. As a Dakota owner I was looking at purchasing a new R/T dakota but after driving an L there is no way. Most of the R/T guys in my opinion seem to be full of bovine fecal matter when it comes to talking smack about L's, there doesn't seem to be any fesable(i know I spelled that wrong) way an R/T could touch an L. And besides Killa I need more room to haul people, or thats my excuse anyway.

John,
I respect your decision to pass on the Lightning for the reasons that you brought up. I have been driving high performance vehicles for most of my driving days. I would rather see you pass on it then read about your passing. Joe did make a good point and one that I have always used, throttle, I don't care what it is you should be able to ride or drive anything, because you have control of how hard you push or twist the throttle (as long as you have the concept of driving down) Not saying that everyone would be able to get in anything and be comfortable, but they should be able to drive it and as they learn the vehicle be able to use more and more throttle until the point where now you will be looking to mod the vehicle because it is too slow. As far as the tickets and your licence goes, that could be a problem, I primarily race at the track and have been lucky not to get caught the times that I have fooled around on the street. But that is self control, one thing that I do have a problem with so I won't argue any points about that with you. But if you like the Lightning and have the money to get it, get one, in time you will find that the truck is actually under powered and will call one of the Lightning tuner gods for more power.
So, I hope I see you among the Lightning owners and don't pass up on this vehicle, you will regret it.

BUY THE LIGHTNING!!!
If it's too scary (?!), simply place a coke bottle under the gas pedal. A can of soup works good, too.
These trucks are simply too fine a vehicle to pass on.
Own a piece of history, you only live once.
I, too, have weaknesses for the power, but once you start maintaining and caring for it, you will learn to temper your right foot. . .especially when you go walking into the GOODYEAR store for new tires. That will tame even the wildest urges to blaze the tires.

Okay Okay I submit please don't beat me anymore. I appreciate everyones input(I think) and I now realize I need to think a little more about what I post in the Lightning forum. It would take some getting used to just like it did going from my 4-banger Ranger to my Dakota but I could do it. I still however think I will go for a 01 or 02 HD. So again please call off the dogs I can't take anymore please.

Ford should just include a Valentine-1 as part of the equipment package.
