True RAM air

Does anyone know the effect that a RAM air while do on a lightning. I am planning on making my own design sort of like the F-bodys have. Does this kind of pressure require a botton end rebuild or any other mod's like chip or pullys ect.... I am planning my own custom RAM air that draws air below from the lower inner-cooler area and pressured into the chamber.

It will only be a restriction to the Eaton. When the Eaton is under full boost, you will not be creating a possitive pressure befor it untill at least 120MPH. You will be much better off either getting a PSP FAST Air kit or JL Ram-Air kit.

You would also create a problem of getting water in the intake if you make a closed intake system.

I was planning on make a kit that I could disconnect when i wanted too. so the conditions would affect when I hooked it up.

If you really want to spend the time and money to do it, go ahead. But I personally, for the money, would recomind either the PSP or JL kit...

I also highly recommend the PSP fastair - it is top quality, which is no surprise since everything I have purchased from PSP is top quality.

The real advantage to a ram air is the supply of 100% cool air to the motor. The word "ram" is over used. It should be "fresh"

I thought the whole idea of RAM air was to use the pressure of the wind to force more air into your MAF. Not just to get 100% fresh air but to force the air into the intake.

Ram would never even come into the picture through the 1/8 or 1/4 mile run, like Lightning Boy said you would have to get up to speeds above 120 to make a difference. Now the fresh cool air thats what we want to see.

Big_Luke,

Sadly, even if the energy of moving air could be completely converted to pressure, at 150 mph the pressure gain is only 3 percent. This is fine on a vehicle that is near top speed where the gain might be an extra 3 to 4 hp.

"Ram air intake" is a velocity-squared effect, if you double the speed, you get four times the pressure. Conversely, if you halve the speed to 75mph, you get only 1/4 the effect, or 3/4 of 1 percent. Also, I've never seen a sealed airbox on a blown motor before. Doesn't mean they don't exist.

Just make your own. It is a simple mod to make. I made mine out of my fog lights and it worked great. The shape of the bumper also grabbs and forces alot more air than the jl or psp kits and you can use both the fog lights for almost double the air. I did this and at higher speeds, I could actually feel the difference between this and the JL ram air set up. Orlandosvt did this to and did a real good quality job and posted pics. I will get the link for you.

I have been working on making a sealed airbox to work with an open eliment filter to go along with the home made kit that should make it do its intended job much better.
