Shift Points

When I got my L two years ago I did the Chip, Upper Pulley, and Full Bassani Xhaust and went to the Dyno. Chassis Dyno, that is. The peak HP occurred @ 5100 rpm (345) and dropped off gradually to 5850 rpm (310).
The dyno people recommended I shift @ 5400 to stay in my power band.
Since then I've done most of the the bolt-ons but nothing internal.
Last year, at the track, I was shifting at 58-5900 rpm and running in the 12.7's pretty consistantly. I did this because it felt pretty good, power- wise, and sounded okay too. Seat of the pants only.
I have recently changed to a 4# lower & stock upper pullies.
I haven't been dyno'ed since then and am wondering if I'm losing power by stretching the shift points too high?
What are you guys with similar mods shifting at? Technical data is welcomed along with personal experiences. Thanks......Jack

58-5900 RPM???

egads, lucky you still have an engine left, seriously

dont run it that high with a 4 lb pulley..the results WILL be disasterous.

Most tuners set shift points between 5400 and 5600.

Is that the range that all the "L"s shift at? I never experienced any problems and it never felt or sounded like the motor was in trouble. I monitor my motor closely and in 9500 TUFF miles the only problem I had was a blown head gasket and I don't know that the rpm's were the culprit. Anybody else out there windin' em up tighter than 5600??

Magic number 5500 RPM. You won't feel any waiting to shift syndrome at that point with the mods you have. Any more than that is waisting valuable time getting down the strip.

Hope you are not using the stock tac to assume you are shifting at 58 to 5900 RPM. The stock tac is nowhere near correct.
