front tire wear and alignment
ok guys here is the big question.
13,000 miles of mostly highway mileage and i just noticed the tread on the front tires is becoming somewhat jagged and slightly cupped on the outside edges. Now this could mean the front end may be out of alignment, the tires may be out of balance, or the bilsteins may be going bad. I made an appointment at Downtown Ford in Canton, Ohio for next Thursday, so if anybody has expert knowledge on this subject, please clue me in so they don't try to take me for a ride. Do you guys think a Ford dealer is capable of aligning and balancing these tires correctly, even if it is a S.V.T. dealer?
Thanks for any advice.---Jim

I had the same problem at 9,000 miles. The inner part of the front tires seem to be cuping, as if the tires were leaning in at the top. The ford dealer took very good care of me and done the front end work and rotated the tires. I've only been about 3,000 mile since but I think they fixed it. The steering is a little more sensitive since the alignment so I'm thinking it was out from the factory. Good Luck
I gotcha beat: I bought my 2001 L a year ago and noticed right off the bat it seemed to pull a bit to the right.
Told the dealership (Five Star), they said it's nothing: Crown of the road, that kinda crap. I said okay.
Just before my one-year bumper-to-bumper coverage is up, I take the L into a different dealer (Berge), ask them to check the alignment, and sure enough, it was off.
They set me up w/ a brand new set of tires. The old tires had only 8K miles on 'em, but you could see some weird wear on 'em.

Mine were pretty bad at 15k miles.
Be sure and get the Camber Kit or make sure they have one in stock for your alignment. Ford decided that all F150's expedition...etc need to pay extra to be alignied.

my o2 pulls
My new 02 pull a little bit to the right on the highway but I am gonna wait until I see some tire ware first so if it is messed up Ill get new tires too but if your tires are curling up on the outer edge usually means you go around corners preety fast unless you truck is really pulling also check air pressure is supposed to be critical in these trucks so I have learned from the people on this board but had similar problems with mustangs always wore the outer edge just fact of life on some cars I guess

slick0478, I know what you mean on the fast corners but its only doing it on the inside of the tire. I hope the Camber Kit they put on made a difference. They covered it all no charge. Just keep an eye on it, hopefully your is fine.
Wow...these stories sound very familiar. At 9K miles, mine was pulling to the right as well. I had some serious wear on the outside edge of the front tires (Middle and inside had Plenty o' tread left). Took it to the dealer and they aligned it for free. It still pulls to the right, but not nearly as bad. I rotated the tires to the rear, and I'm keeping close watch on the fronts.

You guys have the best dealers in the world!!! I had to pay for my camber kit and new fronts and alignment out of pocket!!! They never heard of the TSB(even after I showed them) and wouldnt cover sh*t! This was back in the early summer of 00...Freakin dealer treated me like I had the plague. This doesn't even begin to cover my hellish dealings w/ these goofs, but I won't bore you.
