Blown Cobra
Blown Cobra
There's a guy at my school with a 99' Cobra, only mod on it is his flowmaster exhaust. However, he just took it into the shop to get it supercharged. I was wondering what kind of HP he would end up with, AND, with the mods I will have on by the time his supercharger is done, if I stand a chance at the track..

'99 Cobras have 320hp stock. Average S/C adds 80-100hp. Exhaust est.10-15hp gain. It's safe to say that he'll be in, around, or a little over the 400hp range. Of coarse he'll be lighter than you. With your mods in your sig, I think you'll work him. Also depending upon how his launch techniques are. Might want to get that pulley on first.
Good luck man.

Depends
Cobras 4 valve head can generate a lot of flow. Depends on the supercharer, pully, intercooler (if it has one). You can get over 100hp on a 2 valve GT, w/ a Cobra the you have much more flow which in turn will let you make way more hp.
Better hope he suck's with the clutch.

500 horse??! I wouldn't say THAT much. Unless he's got a blower with more than 10psi of boost. If you're putting money down, first find out what kit he has, how much boost(*important*), any pulley kits with the blower, intercooler, uprgraded engine components, etc. If he's got an AVERAGE blower kit with nothing else other than an exhaust, he might be around 430ish HP at the max. But he may have something more. Again, he'll be about 1000lbs lighter. You guys might be matched in hp. It could be pretty close. Depending on your launch and his ability or unability to shift right.
Most Cobra kits don't go over 8psi max...the stock pistons won't take it. With a basic kit sans intercooler, he'll be close to 400rwhp, if he's properly tuned. With an intercooler, he'll have ~ 430 rwhp. Beefcake had a blown Cobra, and ended up custom building the engine to handle the boost. I think his car eventually ended up in the 10s.
The weakest link for the '99s is the IRS. It can't take much torque off the line, and a good powershift to 2nd will shake the fillings out of your teeth -- the rear hops around like crazy. You'll need to get a good holeshot on him and hope he gets too aggressive off the line. I'd think you'll need to run low 12s to beat him if he knows how to drive.

Nakman is right. Its more like 490 h.p. at the flywheel. Any desent centrifical blower will put out about 45% over stock.

Horse Power TV did a 97 or 98 Cobra, w/ a Vortec supercharger and intercooler.
They got a I belive 435 rwhp out of that stock 305 horse engine.
Which is almost 45%.
Those 245's wont get the job done on a hard launch, So off the line is where you have to beat him.
