Thumbs up hehe! This Magnaflow has gotten LOUD!

Well, I have a 1,000 miles on the Maganflow now and it sounds really good inside the cab. Got into a quick run with a '00 TransAm yesterday, I had the passanger side window down and he had his drivers window down grinning at me, we went from a 20 mph roll, the guy hits it first and jumps out about half a car length(6 speed), then I nail the Lightning and start reeling him in and put two car lengths on him before I shut down. I could hear the muffler echoing off the side of his T/A(man, it was loud). We get to the red light and he pulls up next to me with his hands over his ears and is kinda slumped over(LOL!). He said, "That MF'er is loud!!,fast as hell too!" I was LMAO! We complemented each other's rides and went about our way. These Magnaflows do get louder with mileage, but they sound sooooo good!

This is my 500th post! You guys are a bad influence! Ive spent more money but had more fun with the L since I started reading this board!! Ive got a "mod" addiction and cant help myself. Do they have modders rehab centers for this or something?

Talking

Another great post Skanker. One day I'll get off my rump and order that Magnaflow setup. The one I had on my old '97 V6 seemed to get louder and louder.

Question Magnaflow

Skank Dog,
Which Magnaflow setup do you have?
Is it the two inlet & two outlet single muffler? Or did you use two seperate mufflers and a x-pipe?

I am debating putting on the Magnaflow #10791 x-pipe with two Magnaflow #14416 4" round mufflers . But now I'm kind of worried about how loud this setup will be. I like the sound of power but if it's terribly loud to the point of annoying, I may have to look at other options.

Anyone else use this setup?

Thanks,
ema100c

I got the dual 14416's. It roars. If you want to take a 2 hour ride up to beltsville to listen to it you are welcome to.

I have the 14468, I think it is the stainless version of the one that Skank Dog has. I have about 1000 miles on mine now, and I absolutely LOVE the way it sounds! It definately gets louder when it gets broken it, but not to the point of being annoying. If you want a great sound but don't want to spend the cash on the Bassani, the Magnaflow is the way to go!!!

Question (1) Magnaflow #14468 versus (2) Magnaflow #14416

01Lightning - You have just one muffler right?
I'm pretty sure that Magnaflow model # 14468 is their stainless muffler with dual 2.5" inlets and outlets.

From what I've read on this board, people are saying that the #14468 is quieter than if you run (2) #14416 4" round stainless mufflers with an X-pipe.

Anyone agree with this?

spanky777will - I might just have to ride up to your place to check out the sound if you don't mind. I assume you are talking about Beltsville, MD?

12468 here.

Great sound for A LOT less..

ema,

Yes, dual-in/dual-out with built in x-pipe. No drone in the cab.

Ive heard the 14416's little louder at idle... didn't get to hear it in-cab or WOT though.

How tough is the 12468 to install? Are there any funky bends or custom work that is necessary to get it on? Just wondering if I can have the Midas near my house do the job or if I should take it to my exhaust guy (20 miles away)??

I'm sure the DI/DO is quieter than the separate dual glasspack-style muffs you are talking about. I think Beefcake has that setup.

ema100c: Yes, just one DI/DO

Ebbs,

the pipes leading into the muffler need to be 'squeezed' together in order to fit.

The tailpipes are another story. My exhaust guy used a single to dual conversion tailpipe kit for a 97+ F150.

There are some images of the setup in my gallery linked below.

Ebbsnflows: The only custom bending required is from the muffler outlets to the tips. It's nothing really fancy. The inlet of the muffler will connect directly to the factory pipes with no added pipe. However, I have heard horror stories of people taking thier Ls to "chain" type shops for this kind of work. I would definately take it to a reputable muffler shop.

Trust me, if you like the way it sounds after 1,000 miles, wait till about 8,000.........mine started getting louder/meaner. I really don't know why but it is alot louder and different sounding than when it had 1000 miles on it. Sounds awesome - especially when its echoing of a wall or the other cars.

ema100c- Its the dual inlet/outlet magnaflow #12468. They do have to fabricate the pipes from rear of muffler to the tips. It sounds really good while cruising around and on agressive acceleration, but is not loud. But when you hammer it, sounds like all hell is breaking loose!! LOL! If some hapless soul is hanging at your passanger side door, he's gonna get all his hair rearranged to the right side of his head when you hammer it! LOL! Just look at his face at the next stoplight............priceless.

Sammy: I went by Jason's today to look at my c/b. The outermost tip edge was bent in from being dropped on the end of the box it came in . He's gonna try to refurbish it. He can't install it until Tuesday.

He asked what happened to you and why you didn't come back by after you heard a 'leak'. I told him you made a mistake and was very pleased with your new Magnaflow.
