Question all input APPRECIATED!

[B]Hi, all i would appreciate any input concerning the Mods that will eat my limited L fund up.like how much HP/torque gain am i lookinf at etc..improvement or suggestions WELCOME! i will ,i say in laymen terms=working bluecollar type lingo, have $800.00 to accomplish my task at hand , hopefully, i will at least keep up with SS camaro's? Input PLEASE,thanx....

Subject: 2001 lightning will soon modify!

Hi ,the updates I am thinking of doing to my [2001] lightning are as follows, and my truck will be for street use only no track, just an occasional WOT against a ss camaro, or something like that ,on the way to and from work= 11mi each way.with that said here is what I would like to accomplish.

1.psp transmission valve body kit $200.00 ?= heard line mod valve hard on tranny?
2. psp ?single stage chip programmed for all listed mods and left over stock settings =$255.00 or JDM =$275.00 ? chip needs to be for listed mods.

3. psp 2# pulley kit with tools $240.00?= (will beable to change rear belt.) or JDM ?
4. JDM or PSP?oil breather cap ,price =$30.00
5. JDM or PSP boost bypass kit $ 25.00
6.will use my own stock air box modified with extra 2.5" inch tube runnig in bottom of box, conneted to a 2.5" hose routed to a scoop under the spoiler with a K&N panel filter, and the existing stock fender intake hole to box also.
7.finally who makes your chips? how much are reburns?and will I myself with limited tools ,be- able to install all the listed hardware?do you have instructions for chip install?
8.does the chip disable the pcv valve?
9. would appreciate feedback ,so I can make my final purchase decision.=mike =LightnigRod,
, .hope chip programming can compensate? = the whole package program with the air intake mod I described
and the other above items?

Good initial mods would be

Chip (JL/Diablo, PSP/Autologic, and/or JDM/Superchips) your choice.
2# pullley
PSP/FT shift kit.

IMHO, boost bypass is unnecessary using a 2# pulley.
JDM Breather cap is a FRPP part and can be purchased for approx $18.00 elsewhere. No flame intended, just fact.

There are a couple 'specialty' tools you will need for installation of said items (ie: in/lbs torque wrench for the shift kit, allen socket for the pulley). A good ft/lbs torque wrench is a must have also.

Hope this helps.

Bob

I'm nit-pickin' but I would recommend getting a 3 or 4 lb pulley. You won't even 'need' a chip with the 2 lber. I ran my 3 lber with no problems for 15,000 miles and then I got 'greedy' and went to a 5lber. With the mods you listed, I would think you would be able to 'kill' most SSs--if you can get traction !

Hey, 'blue' or 'white'--we all own Ls.

Thumbs up

Hey guys,

I don't believe you HAVE to chip and pulley an L to beat SS's.

A good muffler (Flowmaster/Magnaflow/etc.- $75), a K&N panel filter-$48, and most importantly a transmission shift improvement device (PSP's valve body- $200) and your L WILL run with and depending on the driver BEAT an SS.

If you're still not satisfied, then chip it.(-$250/$275) PSP/JL/Etc. all sell good chips. Let the tuner know what you have done when you order the chip.

Changing the blower pulley is not worth the effort unless it's going to be for 4 or more lbs of boost.

So for about $575 you can accomplish what you want to do.

Later,

My suggestion would be:

Filter kit: $200
Chip: $350
Pulley: $250

That's your 800 bucks right there and with good traction you should be well into the 12's. I have done the chip and filter, you can see my best time in my sig.

LightnigRod,

What Speedin Bob said is Correct. I sugest at least a two position (Flip chip)

In my opinion a K&N is not the Filter for the Lightning. Get a Filter that is open on the end from JL, JDM , or PSP. If you want a K&N I'll sell you a Polished one that is new for half price. Don't bother with the exhaust until you can afford to go the Long Tube Headers. It costs a lot to get Mufflers (no gain) and then next year switch to what is going to give you performance.

A 2# Pulley is a good choice and will give you more performance increase than a 2000.00 Bassani. Speedin Bob Knows!

For about 800 bucks you can get a 4#-6# pulley, Diablo chip and cold air intake from JL. After that I would go see JDM and order his rods and fasteners so you don,t do what I did. Just a 3# pulley, chip and intake kit caused the rods in my 2001 to fail. This setup should take care of just about any SS on the road.

what gains in Hp /torque am i looking at here with suggested mods ? and will they effect the longevity of my engine? i definetly don't want rods going or fasteners or whatever, warranty will be useless will it not?

My 2 Cents Worth.
X-mas time i got a JL 4 lb pulley, JL chip(diablo) and a JL AIr Induction Kit. I think it all was around $700-750 est. The only thing i would suggest is to buy them all at once and try to work a deal because with all these mods you should put in some new plugs (Densos, or another brand) Not trying to be rude but don't waiste the money on an oil breater and boost bypass kit you can just unplug the bypass. If you do what i did you should be able to get it done with the plugs for $800 maybe $825 but Its well worth it.

Man, you need a spell check, all in the last paragraph. I'm confused!

detremental
definetly
fastners
warrwanty
wil

should be:

detrimental
definitely
fasteners
warranty
will
