Exclamation Fog Light Bypass!!!!

The fog light bypass instuctions on svtlightning is wrong in a sense I just did it and spliced #12 brown and #5 yellow and sure the fog lights come on with parking lights as said but they also come on with autolamp and regular headlights and don't shut off with highbeams it is fine with me but others beware just incase this is not what you wanted and the instructions are for a 2000 mine is a 2002
It was as simple as they said took less then ten min hardest part was removing electric tape from factory harness need a razor blade be carefull that and two small flat head screw drivers
to remove switch and SMALL HANDS its tight to fit my big paws in the switch area
good luck sorry about the length though this was important to others

I am pretty sure the mod was to give you the ability to run them in ANY postion and at ANY time. Thats what I remember from it....

In the stock mode of operation, you are only able to activate the fog lights when the headlight switch is in the full 'on' (or headlamp position), mainly because it is the only position where you can physically pull out the switch to activate the fog lamps.

Through testing and guessing, I have altered my truck's headlight switch mechanism and wiring in such a way that I am able to:

pull out the headlight switch in the auto lamp, the parking lamp, and the headlamp positions.
activate the fog lights while the headlight switch is in the auto lamp, parking lamp and headlamp positions.

from svt

For example: to convert your foglamps to psuedo-DRL's you can splice the #5 wire to the #7 wire to have the fogs turn on whenever you rotate the headlamp switch to the auto position (filing the switch isn't necessary for this one). Or to make the fogs always turn on with the parking lamps, you can splice the #5 wire to the #12 wire (no filing for this one either). If you want to make your own variant, I would study the data I gathered to see how you might go about getting the exact behavior you want

this is the instructions says nothing about all postions on
i dont car ei am happy with the end result just want others to know before hand

I don't understand your meaning... and I wrote the thing.

Or to make the fogs always turn on with the parking lamps, you can splice the #5 wire to the #12 wire (no filing for this one either).
This means that if you splice the #12 and #5 together, the fogs should come on (shine, burn, light) whenever the parking lights are on. So if the parking lights are on in whatever position, then the fogs will also be on.

Then again, I did not test this configuration, so there might be something else going on... Can you help me clear this up?

didnt think of it that way

i guess I misunderstood that they would come on with every position the park lamps are on if that is the case then it is working just fine I thought it would just give you the extra control with out the switch modifications but seeing what you said the park lams are on with the regular lights, auto lamp and high beams so it is right like i said before i dont mind i got the fogs to work with no head lights just park lamps and it looks great

I'm not sure if this has been answered. I got kinda confused after reading what you guys posted. Do any of you know how to wire the fog lights so that they are the only lights that are on. Meaning no headlights, parking lights or tail lights? I ask because during the day while driving down the freeway I like to turn on the fogs but I hate that the parking lights are on also.

Yo Craig!

I saw your truck today man!

I was going home from rt 4 on Boulevard and sure enough when I glimpsed on your street, there was the Truck in the Driveway!

Funny thing was that as I was passing by a brand new looking F150 Harley Davidson was coming from your street onto Boulevard!

You guys got a lot of nice trucks on that street, lol!

KIHMO- To do what you describe would probably involve adding an external switch that would bridge the #2 and #8 wires.

Or you could file down the stock switch collar in the 'off' position, and then splice the #2 and #8 wires together. This would allow you to pull out your headlight switch in the off position and activate the fogs.

Keep in mind that I'm not absolutely sure if this will work, and I don't know what side effects there would be (if any). Good luck!
