Smile Dont pull the coil wires off or any of that.

turbo50stang and Sammy,

All you need to do, to prevent the engine from starting is push the accel pedal down and hold it to the floor, (WOT) before turning the key to start. The engine will not start, only spinning over, as long as you have the accel pedal kissing the floormat. Warning however: If you don't have the pedal all the way down or let up on the throttle at all while spinning the engine over, it will start. This is how I get the oil psi up before starting following an oil and filter change. (Letting the starter spin 20 or 30 seconds before letting up on the throttle.)

Hey,

I've used Mobil 1 5W-30 Synthetic since my first 1,000 mile oil change. Have 9,500 pretty hard miles on my 01 L. About 50 1/4 mile passes on the engine and mostly highway mile for the rest.

Wow, I didn't realize how many 1/4 mile time slips I have, It doesn't take long to build up a lot of time slips. I've had more fun in my L than any other vehicle I've ever owned so far.

Isn't 5W-20 a little thick to be running in our engines??

DL:

You better stay away from CC's zylene--it's fuzzed up your thinkin' . I love my 5W20--it's the thinnest.

OK, your right. I guess this slick 5W-30 Mobil 1 I'm using made that question slide off me to fast ..

Why not just run Synthetic, not part-synthetic.

Question What is the difference?

Looking to begin using Mobil 1 in my 2001 L. I live in Florida and was wondering what the difference is between 5 W30 & 10W 30 oil. I have 12K mile on it and was wondering what grade to go with.

Thanks

Thumbs up

Mobil oil probably has spent the most on R&D on the motor oils that they make than all of the other synthetic oils put together.Mobil 1 0w-30 is their most severe duty oil that they make. I run that or their 5w-30 and have had no problems!

according to SVT owner's guide

The SVT booklet for my 2kL says 5W-30. That's Mobil 1 formulation in her now. Regular motor oils use a thinner formulation in winter and thicker in summer. Don't think this is necessary for synthetics? Would think 5W-20 is too thin for us southern boys in hot weather? STILL NO RESPONSE TO QUESTION OF CASTROL SYNTEC BEING A GREAT OIL?

You are absolutely right, Jake. 30w oil is thicker than 20w, and you do need it for maximum protection during those hot summers. Why did Ford switch from 5w-30 in the 2000 motors to 5w20 in the '01s, even though the motors are virtually identical? It had nothing to do with engine protection, and everything to do with the CAFE rules. The thinner oil will yield a slightly higher m.p.g., but at the cost of reduced engine protection. Keep on using that 5w30, Lightning brothers and sisters. Ford cannot void your warrantee if it meets A.P.I. standards, and your engine will thank you for it.
