yep- i getting to go to the Daytona 500.

leaving tomorrow with some buddies of mine,
i think it is about 14 hours from here.
i never been to a NASCAR race before.

nothing like the smell of burnt rubber and the vibration of a engine!!

Your lucky. Some of us have to work. I wish I could make that trip. Your going to have a blast. You are you going for? I say of course either Gordan, or Jr. I hope Gordan hes worth more money to me . Have fun, it's something you won't forget.

 

i like Jr., he's a great driver and i like Tony Stewart because of obsession to win.

You lucky dog! I went to the 500 in 99 and 00 and I had a blast both times. Just be sure to root for Rusty, he is a fellow L owner! Shouldn't take you quite that long to get there, only took us about 10.5 hrs from Lexington. Have fun!

something about those restrictor plate cars, the sound they make...AWSOME...i was to Talladega last year, that was the best i have seen...Daytona will be like that. Now im headed to Bristol in August, among others...cant wait for that.

The best thing you can do is, after you get over how loud and awesome it sounds is to get some ear protection like they use on a flight line and and then get a walkman and put those smaller earphones in your ear so you can hear the race commentary. Because 500 laps at that decibel is definately puts some strain on the drums. Have fun!

 

We use to go all the time. Its a great place just SO BIG. I did the Richard Petty driving thing here in Richmond. Thats a blast as well. I want do it at Daytona but its like $2500. Its 3 days there though here it was $350 and only 3 hours....

Yes it is true about Rusty Wallace owning a Lightning. It is a red 99 with chrome Roush wheels and some other goodies. I read an article in some magazine (can't remember which one) a while back where he was talking about it. It is in his shop in Mooresville along with a couple of his other hot rods. I got to see it first hand and snap some pictures of it last year while taking a tour of his shop. I also got him to autograph my owners manual at an autograph session, and talked with him for a second about it. Rusty is a cool guy. I have heard Jeremy Mayfield say he has one also.

 

I was there last year with my dad. Most funi ever had. Especially since i was the youngest one there. lol

 

You are soooo lucky that you are going to the 500! I am very jealous. I have been to Daytona twice, but both were the Pepsi 400. Here is a tip: After the cars start up, give it about a minute and you will smell the exhaust from all 43. Another tip: When the cars go by on the first lap, turn your head the other way becuase they blow all the crap off the track into the stands. If you are sitting low than you could get pelted in the face. Rusty has been my favorite driver for as long as I have been watching NASCAR. I never knew he had a L. I toured his garage and Penske's after I went to the fall race at Rockingham last year and I sure did not see an L. I would not have missed it had he had one. Maybe he was out cruisin'.
