Will a 2# Pulley By Itself Make a Difference?

I am thinking about installing a 2# lower pulley on my '01 L with the only mods being a MagnaFlow 14468 and a K&N panel. Will this mod (with NO chip) make a noticable difference? And also will this cause any problems with my A/F ratio? I wouldn't think the airflow would increase enough to peg the MAF.

What do you guys think?

when i first put the pulley on it made a huge difference. the biggest difference out of any mods that I have to date(thats goin to change soon though ). anyway, yes it will make a big difference. as for the A/F ratio you should be ok as long as you dont WOT it 5 times a day if you know what I mean.

Hey J15BIG: Were you running the 2# by itself or with a chip?

Do yourself a favor and call your tuner and make sure he knows what you are going to be doing. Let him know your driving habits and all so he can help you. For an 1/8th or 1/4 mile run you should be fine. I think I would just wait and get a chip and pulley at the same time, then I would go with the 4 or 5 pounder. 2 pounds just isn't worth the trouble without a chip. Have you done the boost actuator adjustment to see if you have some hidden boost. If not read about it here. Scroll down below the pulleys.

I was running it without a chip for a while with no problems. No detontaion...nothing.I did eventually get a chip though. But as you may now I know have a blown engine on my hands. Im almost 100% sure it wasnt due to the extra boost without a chip but who nows. I would suggest getting a chip just to be safe. But if you cant afford one or dont want one then go for just the pulley. Just make sure that if you hear anything weired coming from the engine stop, take the pulley off, and bring it into the dealer.

I just don't want to void my warranty, plain and simple. It seems that the 2# pulley would be a good choice for me because no chip is required, and if problems arise it can be easily replaced with the stock pulley and taken to the dealer. I will take the advice of usahooters and talk to some of the Lightning tuners.

Thanks for the replies, now I know a little bit more about what to ask!

01Lightning,
I ran my 01 stock with just a 2# lower and went 13.14 so you can see it helps alot! I saw 24ft.pounds of torque with the 2# pulley also and the air-fuel was just fine.I would reccommend a valve body shift kit with or without a chip to firm up those wimpy stock shifts!
