BaylorBearWS6 - try and drive an L. You love it. And over time if you get tired of the auto you can be the first to put a manual tranny in it, then be the aww of many. Alot of us have thought about it and would like a manual, but ...

are either serious racers and know it will slow them down a little

or are joyriders don't want to bothered with hassle or the price of getting one custom made just for that.

Talking Pretty Cool!

Whoa Blacklight! Thats a pretty cool pic. I wonder how much that sucker costs? Where did you find it? I wonder how much it costs to install it? Do you know anyone that has it? Does it shift well?

Wasn't a 6spd in recent GT40?

Believe the GT40 had a 6spd mated to 5.4supercharged? Doesn't Cobra R run 5.4 not 4.6 witha 6spd? Petition for Gen. 3?

Read in Truckin' magazine a couple of months back about some guy who bought the standard F-150 with the 5.4L and with a 5 speed. He then proceeded to modify the pi$$ out of it so that it would be as close to an L as he could get. Just so that he could have the manual transmission. Probably cost a fricken fortune. I'll see if I still have the mag at home.

M5 or M6

So...Captain and Blacklight,

Is that a M6 or an M5 tranny in those pics?

Just think how much your gas mileage will improve once you get a 6 speed! (or even a 5 speed)

Once again, I wonder how much one of those suckers cost, installation and everything.

Baylor, if you're not IN LOVE with the Lightning check out the new Dodge with the Viper motor coming out next year. They ONLY have 6 speed manual trannys in them

No Problem! Yeah, I like the truck a lot too...it will be a tough call but I am going to hold out for a year or two because I think the competition is going to get fierce out there. I drive a black durango now so this truck is close to my heart but my hat goes off to Ford for being the first with a supercharger in a pickup.

They are both 5 speeds. I would imagine gas mileage would improve noticably with a 5 or 6 gear.

As for price, considering each transmission costs a couple grand, then you'd have to get a bell housing made, everything fitted, then run a clutch and cable, cut hole for shifter. I'd guess it would get close to $10k.

The cheaper easier way would be probably be either the cobra R tranny, the viper tranny made to fit in the mustang engine that was mentioned in the thread many posts back in this thread.

Or you could just wait for the Dodge to come out.
