Did some 01 plugs this weekend!

Man did I fiorget how cluttered that stock compartment was? One of the ILLNESS guys came over and we did the plugs inabout 1.5 hours with some quick dirt bike riding time inbetween sides of the motor, HEHEHEHE. Something interesting though, I compared my stock 99 plugs to the stock 01 plugs and the 01 plugs look to be a different setuup then the 99's. the part numbers are differnt and all, and the tips of the plugs almost look like and Iridium plug. Does anybody think thats why all these people could be having problems with the 01's when they add chips and pulleys. I ran my 99 with a chip, filter and 2lb pulley for the longest time and had no problem at all. Just something to think about. I took some pics of them, but I haven't developed them (old school camera).

Besides that the new plugs where the TR5's and they made the truck feel allot smoother then the stock ones and the truck seemed to be very very smooth at W.O.T. The 01's also have different looking coil panks then the 99's do, and I got to see the new intercooler intake runners finally, totally setup different then the 99 style intake. I'm wondering if that intake makes that much of a differene in performace over the older style. If so, I think its time to upgrade!

Plugs

What have you noticed with the 01 plugs?? Any better so far??

With regards to the intake, if you are referring to the upper intake, the 2001 won't fit on your truck because the supercharger is different.

As far as the recalled lower intake, SVT told me that the change makes no difference in performance.

...
My opinion after a weekend of TR5's: stuck plugs suck and it doesn't matter which year they're from.

Spark plug

I e-mailed NGK directly and this is what they told me: (the TR5 plug, is that what they call the iridium TR55?)

We would like to answer your question as follows.

We recommend Iridium IX spark plug TR55IX for your F150 truck.

If you have another opinions or questions,
please send mail to webmaster_ga@mg.ngkntk.co.jp.

Thank you.

Iridium Plugs

The iridium plugs are new and form NGK. The factory recommends them as per my message posted earlier. I still would like to know if anybody has tried them.

The NGK tech called me back when I had the same question, I told him the boost deal , he recommended the tr-6 for higher boost, the TR-5 for reg apps, the only Iridium NGK had close to the application was the equiv to a tr-55 which he said was to hot for the Lightnings and did not recommend it at all
