Supercharger/Blower
i have come to notice that most people call superchargers like the ones we have...i believe roots type... blowers and superchargers like most mustangs have...like the vortech and paxtons....supercharges. Just what i have noticed, might be different where you are but thats what people say around here. just my .02
Want to be more confused? If you get in to the industrial world (I'm on a ship) they even call turbo chargers, superchargers. A turbo is nothing but an exhaust gas driven centrifugal supercharger. Any kind of air pump, or device to pressure feed the intake of an engine is "supercharged." Do you have a two stroke outboard? That is supercharged also. A two stroke cant devlop sufficiant vaccuum like a fourstroke to "suck" in air. It uses the piston action and pressure under the crankcase to force air into the cylinder and promote proper scavanging. So, a roots, lobe, gear, centrifugal, or exhaust gas type super charger or blower is just a different style of pressure feeding more air into your intake! Don't mean to come off as a know it all, I just get off on this crap, and work with five foot diameter triple turbo's on a 12,000 hp two stroke 8 cyl engine!
