Anyone have an aftermarket PCM and taken their truck in for warranty work? Did the dealership have a fit? I just bought my extended warranty and I'm wondering if they'll void it for having an aftermarket chip. Any ideas? Also, anyone have a stock chip laying around for sale?

 

There has been a lot of discussion on this, and it all comes down to how your dealer wants to handle it - should they void the warranty or not. I asked my dealer. They said a chip voids the warranty, an aftermarket air filter does not. If a dealer doesn't care if you have a chip or not, and you need repair work, they may do it and just not tell Ford about the chip. I would ask your dealer before you mod anything.

 

I don't think they can "void" the warranty. A chip may bring a warranty issue into question. They may deny a warranty claim if a problem was cause by the chip. The "warranty" covers the entire vehicle. To void the warranty would mean that they would not fix anything. They can't do that. I think any mod will cause a dealed to take a good hard look at a warrany issue. The more we know about our trucks, the less they can pull on us.

Your right. They will not void the entire warranty because of a chip. If your seat breaks and you have a chip, they will fix your seat. The problem is - If something breaks, is the dealer going to blame it on the chip. If you are spending the money on an extended warranty, and are thinking about putting a chip in, you should just know ahead of time that this may cause warranty issues in the future if your engine, or trans gives you problems.

There is a risk with any mod. Any one doing mods should know this. I will be doing a Magnacharger on my truck in the next couple of weeks. I went and talked to the service advisor. I wanted to let then know what I'm doing. I let them know that I am aware of the issues that could arise. I accept the risk. I asked them if they will stand behind the truck and work to resolve issues. They said they would. I will continue to do buissness with them.
It's hard to hide the fact that a supercharger has been installed. A chip can be removed. I take mine out before bringing the truck in. More so they don't check for a code and end up replacing the PCM.
I would think that you Lightning guys would have an easier time with the dealer when dealing with this subject. Don't they expect some modding?
There is a risk. It's not huge with a chip.

If you are dealing with a dealership that says this. FIND ANOTHER DEALERSHIP! And you can also say,"prove that the chip caused the broken seat."
Read the warranty in your booklet. It dosen't say anything about voiding the warranty.
If we know what we are talking about they can't tell us otherwise. Lightning or plain old, non supercharged, 235-260hp, F150's!
