disabling the door chime

I just disabled the seatbelt reminder, and would really like to get rid of the chime when the driver's door is open and the ignition's set to accessory. Anyone have a good fix on this? thanks.

A small dab of C-4 and a ignitor should do the trick.

Sorry, just couldn't resist. I have no idea how to get rid of the chime.

Usually, the one easy cure is to find the warning chime and unplug it. I've done that before, one word of caution, the chime won't work for keys in or lights on either, most likely, unless they are separate units.

wolf,

My suggestion is to simply interupt the door pin wire coming from the drivers door. There is no easy way to get rid of the chimer...you can take the piezo out of the module and replace it with an appropriate size resister, but to me it would be easier to do this:

Locate teh GEM module above the fuse box. In the harness you will find a black yellow wire (drivers door pin) and a black pink wire (passenger door pin) snip the black yellow wire, and also clip the black pink wire. Use diodes to isolate each wire from the other, and attach both of them back to the black pink wire. This will allow your drivers door to still work the domelight. Be a 10 min fix, and would do what you wanted without tearing anything up. And if you ever need to put it back its easy to do....

Hope this helps

Brandon,

"Use diodes to isolate each wire from the other, and attach both of them back to the black pink wire."

I understand this just enough to get myself in trouble! Not sure what type of diode you're referring to, and when you say attach both of them back do you mean the wires going to the module or from the module (want to be sure here).

thanks for taking the time to help,

Welllllllllllllll

From Doors

..........Blk/pnk----[ | ]-----|
.........................................|---------Blk/Pnk (GEM MODULE)
..........Blk/Yel.----[ | ]-----|

So basically CUT the blk/onk and blk yellow away from the GEM module. and attach them as shown. 5 amp diodes available at radioshack should do the trick. Note the stripe on the diodes, and the direction i have them pointing...

you really wouldnt need the diodes in the example above, but i have taken several gem modules and unsoldered the speaker (for deer hunters) and you dont have to put anything in its place on the board.

Lariat, I diode isolate everything. If it needs it or not, I'd rather be safe. I have seen modules in the past that had problems after desoldering the bells/piezos, thats is why I suggest putting a resister in there(or doing what i suggested)....may not need it, but again, id rather ensure everything is going to be alright. If someone can get us a schematic on that module we can figure out if it needs it or not.
