Boost Bypass and Rev Limiter?'s.......

I have heard the terms boost bypass and hitting the rev limiter. What are these, and are they good or bad or what? Mods in sig. Someone please explain these to me. I'm a little slow.

Thanks for your precious time,
Brian

I'll try and help a Floridian since I'm a sixth generation Floridian myself--born-n-raised many moons(a little Seminole lingo ) a go in Miami.

If you get into a situation where your rear tires are spinnig rapidly such as in a 'burnout' at the track; the PCM may dump all your built-up boost. It takes several(?) seconds to rebuild it and the start of the race may be over by then. You will feel very foolish as your L rolls-slowly --down the strip. It could happen at WOT(when shifting) too--I think. There are two ways to prevent this--the easiest(what I've done) is just to unplug the solenoid that controls this function. Mine has been unplugged for 15,000 miles with no problems--it works. Go thru(search isn't workin') this site until you find "Chuck's Lightning"--he has a pic of the solenoid.

The rev-limiter is a device that protects the eng. from self-destructing in an over-rev situation. The PCM controls this too and causes certain cylinders to misfire thereby reducing the revs(rpm's).

The last time I forgot to unplug my boost dump solenoid at the track, my boost dumped during my burn out and I didn't notice it then. Not until I ran a 15.40. It always catches me by suprise.

I just leave mine unplugged.

good vs. bad

it is good in a sense that it dumps boost to protect your engine but bad when it happens, kinda

did the same thing tonight.

32 degrees and decided to roast the winter weenies. 4 lb's of additional boost helps hehe

bounced it off the rev limiter and went straight to slugville

doom,

more like D:oH... or something...

Is unplugging the boost bypass the same as the boost bypass kit JDM sells?
