Why No Insulation On Underside of Hood?

Is there a reason Ford chose not to put insulation on the underside of the hoods of the L's? Thanks just curious.

Don't feel bad, neither does SVT. Maybe a heat issue and or weight factor????

I put one in mine from an Expedition. When the search engine is fixed, check out my post with part #'s and cost. Works good.

Could it be that the aluminum hood dissipates heat quicker without it? Maybe??

The hood is aluminum? I never checked but I assumed it was plain old steel.

Here's another oddity I noticed about the hoods. How come the silver L's have whitish gray paint in the engine compartment and underneath the hoods? Does it have to do with the paint process for the metallic color?

Yeah, love that whine. The insulation on the mustangs with the logo embossed in it looks good. Kinda wish my L had one with the Lightning badge embossed in it.

Could be a clearance problem with the eaton.

Thumbs up BMWBig6

Yep, I was surprised too that the hood was aluminum. Get out the magnet! LOL

I don't know what the deal is with the underside of the hood not being painted but a friend of mine that runs a body shop said that a lot of manufacturers are doing the same thing.

my 98 4.6 did not have insulation either..

except for the fender and doors there isnt to much more on the L's to rust up, the hood is alum. and the box is fibergalss....good thing because i take off the ground effects in the winter and they reak havok on the paint underneath them and hold some nasty stuff against the paint where they are mounted..

Chickenears, you have a lot more posts than me, so I will yield to your seniority on this matter. I have no reason to doubt you anyway. Besides... you couldn't PAY me to go outside in this frigid weather to take a magnet to the hood. I just looked out the window... YEP, it sure looks like aluminum to me too!

GOOD EYE!

chicken ears is right, its aluminum. Pretty light weight, I was thinking about just using the stoker for racing this year. You can never be to light with an L, HEHEHEHEHEHE.:P
