Tom, that sound in the other posts is pinging, or detonation, but that doesn't occur at idle. What you are most likely hearing is gear lash from the blower, which is common when you install a lower pulley (the stock pulley has a rubber core that absorbs that noise). Does the noise go away if you raise the rpms? If so, I can raise the idle rpm in your chip to tone that down a bit.

Is that the same sound some of us hear after an oil change?

The noise some of us have occurs after the 1st oil change. It isnt loud and pretty much disappears after the engine is warm. Ford and SVT both have heard it and pretty much say that it isnt something to be concerned with. Some on this board contribute it to it to the 5w20 oil. Someone posted awhile back that they had the oil, which was in the truck from the factory, analysed and it actually turned out to be 10w30 (which members of this board also use). IMHO if 10w30 came from the factory, going to a lighter weight oil could contribute to this "marble in a can" noise. But members here also use 5w20 with no noise whatsoever. I guess its just one of those things.

I really noticed the same noise after I had the oil changed@ 500 miles. Very easy to hear when the engine is cold & you put the L in gear.. Not very loud but if you listen you can hear it..

FYI

My L made that noise after the 1st oil change for a few days, (5w30 Castrol Syntech blend & K&N gold filter), but I did not prime the oil filter.

Just did the 2nd oil change (5w20 Castrol GTX & K&N gold filter) and I did prime the filter this time -NO NOISE.

Hey Flord, Did you do about 1/2 quart in the filter? More or Less? What was the total oil used including what you put in the filter?

Rhino:

I put about 1/2 qt. of Royal Purple #11(5W20) Synthetic Racing oil in my K&N Gold filter and 5 1/2 qts. more in the eng. No oil-related noises, no measureable useage, and no 'smoke'.

I filled the filter to about a 1/2" below the filter threads -probably about 3/4's of a quart. I used a full 6 quarts total (including the prime) -it reads dead nuts on in the middle of the dipstick.

I am also getting that rattling noise. It kinda sounds like a whistle /rattle. Not very loud though. It seems like I can hear it better once the engine gets hot but I could be wrong. It definitely sounds like it comes from the charger and it didnt start until I put the 3lb lower pulley on.
