Maaco paint jobs?

disclaimer: This is not for the Lightning!!!

I know you get what you pay for, but has anybody had any decent dealings with Maaco?

They have that $225 deal going right now and I was thinking about it for my new old beater car. It's a 92' Sentra SE-R, the original paint is fading, original clearcoat is peeling, the car has alot of scratches and has a few small rust spots. I was thinking about do some prepping myself (mostly the rusts spots) and then a cheap paint job to cover up the scratches and give it a better then it is now coat of paint.

Or I just completely rule them out

My dad just got his '94 Accord painted there. He had them fill in the bumper, which had a slight accident once, catch a leak on the driver side door, install a rear deck spoiler and paint that also, and painted it the same exact color, exterior only (no door jambs, inside hood, nor inside trunk). It came out to just over $750.00, got a 4-year warranty, and clear coat also.......Not a bad price, and they did a hell of a job also............clean!
For a daily driver I say not a bad place to go.

The paint job is not bad, but do all the prep work yourself. That price probably only includes the price of the paint job. They probably won't even primer over the original paint. At least they didn't on the car that I had painted there (I paid about $300). That was also without a clear coat. I guess I can say for the price, I was saisfied.

But like I said, any work you can do yourself, you will be better off. And yes, you get what you pay for.

Hope this helps.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

I did the same thing to a older pickup a few years ago. Had the rust sandblasted at a cemetary monument place then filled and sanded it. MAACO squirted Imron (sp?) paint on it for $500. Unfortunately, they didn't mask it very well and I had to remove paint from the bumpers and 2 tires (what a BITCH). It looked pretty good and lasted for a couple years until it was stolen. I saw it at the Detroit Police pound about a year later and it still looked good.

Thumbs down

Took my 87 EXP beater to them a few years ago to get the "mid price" paint job. I was told that to make the paint last they would have to sand off all the old peeling clearcoat and use a primer/sealer to keep the old stuff from bleeding through. That upped the price to about $650.00 so I went for it.
The end result was TERRIBLE!! Their prep work sucked. Paint was all over the trim and glass. To make matters worse road rash is knocking the paint off, and what do I see under it? My old faded paint. What happened to the extra sanding and the primer/sealer I paid extra for? If you're gonna use them, beware. Also check out as much of their work and talk to as many previous customers as you can that have dealt with the shop in your area. Their quality varies greatly from shop to shop. Sorry this post is so long but this always hits one of my hot buttons. I wasn't expecting much from them but got a lot worse than that. End of rant. I'm all better now.

Took my old Mustang there to get a Cervini hood painted. It was $250 to pain the hood or $275 to paint the whole car because they were running a special. I decided to paint the car. They did a good job, just be sure to prep anything and everything you want fixed before they paint.
