Question 2001 Chevy 454 SS ??

While on vacation in a little town in Mexico a couple weeks ago , I saw 3 black chevy single cab pick-ups, all with the newer bodies( not the old 454'ss). All three trucks had the 454 decals in the same exact spots ( right before tailights). I finally talked to one of the owners asking if the decals were just to remember the old 454, he said "no", this has a 454 engine. Of course being sceptical i asked if he wanted to pop the hood ( trying to call his bluff), he poped it as fast as i do with my L . Sure enough there was a huge engine with a plate covering the intake stating 454 #203. I was in aww.. i checked to see if it was maybe the older engine, no, pratically brand new, almost no dust to speak of. I asked where he bought it? He bought it in mexico, all the info inside the truck was in spanish, even the speedometer was in kilometers, in miles it went up to 130 mph. I dont know what was going on with this, i mean, they dont even sell L's in mexico, but they have a brand new 454 SS? Then again I did see a brand new Dodge Ram Charger ( a bigger 2 door durango extended) that only mexico sold. Why do you think Chevy would sell that 454 in mexico but not in the U.S. ? dont get me wrong, its not like im going to trade my L for it, but it did boggle my mind.

Actually Steven is right. Us Mexicans usually will buy many things that others wont. But besides that, there are many cars that are sold in mexico and not here (i.e. thay new vw bettle was used since the mid 90 over in Mexico before it was introduced here in the U.S.) Thats not the only chevy trucks they have either, they also have the 350ss & 400ss.

P.S. Most cars in Mexico are either of equal or slighty higher value than in the U.S.

Why don't people just buy trucks like that and bring 'em over here?

Because you can't get them titled over here because they WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS TEST. No cats and other problems, No restrictor in filler tube, no egr, and a whole bunch of other parts.
