F1s for Solo2?
Both SoCal SVT and CSSC are running auto-x events this year, and I am interested in participating. As I suspected, Spike let my know that my 555Rs are totally unsuitable for such shenanigans. So, I am thinking about buying another pair of wheels and mounting some of the F1s stacked in my garage, just to give it a try. I know, the BFG racing tires would be faster, but that would require 4 new wheels, and I'm just not sure I will like it well enough to make that kind of investment. Plus, I can drive the F1s on the street and save the Nittos for the track. Don't bother replying to this thread, I have already made my decision.

I dare everyone on this board to reply to this at least five times this week.

George, tell me when you go, I want to watch and film, I have L's drag racing, but none autocrossing!
George,
Tires were designed to grip and wear out. They won't do that in your garage. And since they're in your garage, it won't matter if you wear them out. Either way (garage or used and worn out), they're ultimately unusable. I suggest using them and wearing them out!

(that's two for me)

In my opinion, tires are the cheepest (besides gas) form of entertainment out ther. What else can you use to drive to work, drag race at night, and auto cross in the midday with,,,,,Tires At around $180.00 a peice. What fun.

I ran a few SCCA autocrosses with the discontinued BFG R1A race tires and they made a BIG difference. I think Tire rack still has some that will fit the stock rims. Plus they were cheaper than the F1's.
I set fastest time in the slalom and the autocross at our Ontrack event with the R1a's .... Just ask the locals - It couldnt have been the driver ha dto be the tires....
Serious autocrossing will CHEW through F1's ....

Three - two to go.
My opinion on stock brakes and tires? If that's all you have, so what. Go for it! If you don't, you're missing out. The Lightning is still an all around performance vehicle in its stock form, even with it's shortcomings. I ran several road courses on the stock tires and brakes and it didn't matter because I was out there instead of reading about it. A good portion of the guys running at these events show up with a daily driver even if it's a low hp subcompact with homemade mods. After several events, they can improve their driving skills and in the long run, that will outperform any peformance mods they'd add, all for the cost of showing up and learning.
George:
How about posting some more info on the event or links to the event?
