First mods...?
First mods...?
i was wondering whsat everyones opinion is on what first mods should be done to a new lightning. My truck will be arriving this month and i was trying to think of the first mods i would want to make. My first thoughts were a new muffler cause i hear the stock sound isnt that good. Also i was thinking of a K&N filter.....What else should i go for? Also if u have pictures of your mods please post those if u can.
Thanks
Thanks
Without sounding like a hypocrate because I've done the mods you've listed, drive the truck around for a while before just jumping right in and dumping more money into it. You may find you like it just the way it is.
With that said, Magnaflow mufflers seem to be a inexpensive upgrade for the mufflers and give you a bit more sound over stock. Installed it shouldn't cost your more than $250 and that's going with a stainless muffler and stainless mandrel bent pipe. (That's what it cost me) If you go aluminum, expect more in the $150 range for everything.
A K&N panel filter won't get you much if any in the way of hp. It just gives you the benefit of a cleanable filter, that is until you open up the stock box (homemade cold air, or just cutting out the bottom of the box).
Hope this helps.

Do allot of research before you start modding and remember that once you start modding you run the chance of voiding your warrenty.
with that said I would set a budget cause you could drop 20K on your truck mods in a day and not even know it. Or I could atleast.
Start with like a $1000.00 bucks
Get a chip $250 to $450. depending on how many programs yo get
Air filter kit, either PSP, JL, or JDM have great kits. the PSP fast is probably the best now and around $200 to 250 I think.
then I would get a lower pulley. From 2lbs to 6lbs you can get them all. $200 to $300 bucks about.
With those 3 mods your truck should run high to mid twelves depending on what size pulley you go with. One thing I would really suggest is a PSP factory tech shift kit, It will save you trans. $200 bucks for that mod.
Good luck and have fun.

What exactly does the pully do.... and what about flowmaster??? 40 series? what did others go with.. i love loud exahust so i know i will be putting a new system on. Whast about headers??? does the lightning really need them or is it fine how it is?
If your going to do headers I would only use the long tubes! Shorties are a waste of time and there about the same price and the long tubes are easier to install anyway. they also provide a much bigger gain in HP and TRQ then any other. You can get those threw PSP, JL, or JDM.
If you want the best sounding exhaust then I would go with the bassani. I have it and most everybody else does and they'll agree that the bassani just sounds so awesome!
Do the long tube headers with high flow cats, and a bassani cat back system. that should make some more power with the other mods and sound real sweet!
The lower pulley spins the suppercharger faster and will create more boost. The bigger the lower pulley the more power your going to make, but for the same token your going to shorten the life of the blower (not allot). I would have you start with a 4lb lower and see how you like it, then once you get confortable with it, sell the 4lb pulley and step up to a 5lb or 6lb.
The biggest thing you need to get is the chip and filter for the truck. Your going to notice the biggest improvements with the chip and the filter is just a given that everybody does to make more power without stressing the motor more. same with the exhaust, its what I call safe power. You not going to hurt anything with a exhasut, or a filter kit. But you always run the chance of something breaking with the chips, pulleys, nitrous.........
Just remember that if you get a chip and filter for the truck first, if you get a lower pulley, your going to have to get the chipped reburned to add more fuel to the mixture. Always consult your tuner when you add a mod that your not positivly sure about. Its just safer that way.
P.S. It wouldn't be a bad idea to change the plugs on your truck right away also. the stock platnums are somewhat unsafe according to some people. For 20 bucks, you can't be to safe.
