Long Tubes Won't(shouldn't) void your warranty, but you know Ford, they'll look for any excuse!!!

Maybe NeedFourSpeed will chime in on the Horsepower ratings.... I believe he made 8 hp at 12-16 tq (with no pulley), I think you start seeing the bigger numbers in conjunction with the more mods that you have, i.e. chip, pulley, filter, etc.

Cost is quite a bit... I've seen prices from $775-almost $900
Both JDM and JL sell LT's, not sure if any of the other big namers do... (PSP, LightningForce) ?

Actually, they will void your exhaust warranty, just like putting on an aftermarket muffler.

Unhappy

As Spike explained to me the other night, they may not void your warrantee, but they will sure as hell make your truck unsmoggable here in CA. No muffler shop will touch the job, either, because they risk a $10K fine and loss of license for removing a catalytic converter in working order. Maybe you want to take the truck to New Jersey to get it done?

I didn't think the cats had to be removed with the LT's?

I'm no expert, but aren't those 2 Cat's in the picture conected to LT's?

I realize that these are aftermarket cats, but I still believe that the stockers can be used.

Actually it is a Federal Emissions law that you would be violating. 5 years old 50k miles you cannot change the cats. If you have a failure the dealer must replace the bad cat with a like unit. You cannot change the number or location of the cats. Look in your warranty book. Be willing to bet the emission warranty is 5yr/50k. So technically it would have to be for "off-road" use only in all states. Some states have tougher inspection laws.

Sure, you are right, Marcus, but the L. has four cats. They had to remove two of them to get those puppies on. Strictly a no-no unless that vehicle is certified for off road use only. Maybe the state it is registered in has laxer inspections than us, but I don't think you could get it to pass here in CA. Hmmmm, my five years will be up in another three, but I'll never have 50K miles on it, at the rate I drive it now that would take me another 15 years.

alphadoggy,
im no expert either but i think, repeat think, you are wrong. i have been talking to someone on the borads and he had a set of JDM LTs installed by APEX racing in santa clara, ca. Now if anyone wouldnt install something illegal i would think it would be APEX since they have such a big reputaion. jdm even said over on svtperformance that his headers were 50 state legal...he even specified CA legal. ill see if i can find that thread and post a link.

You're probably right George...I would just figure, if you at least have some sort of Cat on the vehicle, then it would be alright.

Big1 that is SVTRobG's awesome 01' It's JDM LT headers and what looks like a full magnaflow exhaust system. With Bassani X-pipe... (I could be wrong, as this is not my truck)

I will see if the JDM setup, Long tubes and cats will pass Massachusetts emisions this march. Our smog laws are as strict as California.

J15BIG posting names like that, when you don't know what is and what is not California legal, is not a good idea especially if they are your friends. Be more discrete.
