'Crazy' day at the track...my eng. shut off--(long story)

after changing to another chip. I made 3 passes on chip 'x'(2 in the low 13s & 1 at 12.9xx). Hmmmmmmmm....maybe I should try chip 'y'? I make the change--eng. starts--get in the lanes--idles ok--do a burnout--fine---launch! While still in 2nd gear(at WOT), all of a sudden, the engine dies --it shuts off! I hit the flashers--put it in neutral and try to start--nothing--try it again--ok, fires up and I pull off the track. Btw, that was a 19.xxx run against a Honda's 22.xxx time--she missed a shift I heard.

Get out and check that the tape is still holding the chip in securely--it is. Check the harness bolt--seems ok? Make another run--same thing happens except now it shuts off in 3rd. gear after going thru the traps? Starts back up on the first try this time. Decide to call it a day and go home--too many ricers and not enough rednecks for me .

Get home and put my 10mm socket back on the harness bolt--maybe not tight 'enough'? I'll hit WOT out on I-75 tomorrow and see if it shuts down--not a great feelin', believe me.

I pulled #5 s/plug this am just because I hadn't looked at one of them since I installed the NGK BR7EFs recently. Looked fine except for the 'rusty' colored residue--propably from the Torco Accelerator I was using at the track.

Btw, I purposely left out any chip 'names'--I have 4 different ones--so guessing the tuner would be futile. I'm going to speak to him Monday.

Dan, pull the chip and look into the chips socket. Look for any "sliders" that are bent. Sounds like its not making a good, secure connection. I call you tommorrow to discuss the dyno results.

Dan,
I have the same problem with a brand X chip that stalls on me once in awhile,it is in your connection with your computer board. Some chips fit more tightly against the contacts than other chips so here is a little hint that works for me,after you push that chip in tight make sure the chip is more on the downside of the computer board it seems to stay connected better!

Yea, that's what I thought too. I changed my mind about runnin the chip in question tomorrow--just went out and put 'x' back in. I looked at the contacts on 'y' and couldn't 'see' any problem. We'll talk tomorrow.

And Matt, thanks for the 'tip'.
