Boost & Pulley ??

I read recently that by changing the stock intake and replacing it with an after market intake kit can increase boost in the L by up to 2-3 Lbs.

My question is: If this is so and we can gain yp to 3lbs of boost with an intake kit, why do we need a 2 or 3 lb pulley?

For one, the intake is much easier to put on and cost about $100 less depending on the pulley.

Granted more boost is good But I am very curious about the above querries.

Probably one of the more educated guys or tuners can assist with this question.

What company makes this claim? I bet with a little more info, the people on this forum can get to the bottom of this

If by intake kit you mean an open element air filter, you will not gain 2-3 lbs of boost.

Unless I misunderstood

We chose to use the Power Stack filter since the power cone sits directly in front of the opening in the inner fender that feeds air to the stock airbox, taking advantage of the stock "ram air" effect. Using the PSP 99-up Lightning filter kit, you will notice the blower boosts up faster
and many people are seeing an increase in boost up to 3psi !!

As I have JUST installed a JL Open-Air Filter Air Kit last night, and taken my L out for test drive, I can safely tell you the difference. Without the filter, my stock boost guage hit the last little mark before "10", so I guess that means 8-9. With the filter, the stock boost guage pegs out way past ten so I know there had to be AT LEAST 2lbs boost increase b/c the truck is SO MUCH better now than without it. Definitely felt (and heard!) the difference inside!
As for the pulley, if u want EVEN MORE boost, go with one! I prob am going w/ a 4lber soon.

Remember that a filter alone, does not have the ability to increase boost but it can reduce boost. This claim may be comparing a stock 99 filter box with no ram going on and too small of a hole in the fender to the duel ram-air intake scoops running at 140 mph.

The down side of these air scoop, ram-air setups is the amount of water that the motor can injest if you end up running in the rain. Picture passing an 18 wheeler just as he hits a water puddle and drowns your truck in a wave of water... that sort of thing. I once had a turbo Saab on full boost when I hit an unexpected pool of water and droped all the exhaust valve seats. It was not good

Hope this helps
