Dimming Headlights???
Dimming Headlights???
I have notice for the last couple months when I park my truck coming home from work that my headlights dim when I put it in reverse. The lights on the console dim and my LCD display dims also. I have asked a couple of my friends what it could be. They tell me it could be from the alternator to the battery. The battery that I use is a OPTIMA red top. So now I am asking you guys. What do you think is the reason for my trucks headlights to dim? So I can fix it. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks for the help.

is it a huge difference or barely noticable? if its a huge difference then i would try and get it fixed like your doing but if its just a little bit i wouldnt worry about it. you can go with a better alternator if you want...that should fix it i think
The fact that it only happens when going into reverse, leads me to believe you may have a loose ground. When reverse engages the shift of the drivetrain may be moving the truck in a direction to cause the problem. It could also be the alternator harness is in a bind & the reverse torque is causing a mometary loss of connection. Can you have someone shift the truck in & out of reverse & check the alternator output? One other thing, do both of your backup lights work OK, I was wondering if one of those circuits was damaged causing high amp draw during reverse.
