Electric Fan--Worth it ???

For those of you running the electric fan/water pump setup, is it worth it? I am debating buying one, but it just dosen't really seem that it would be worth over 500.00 for the two. Help me change my mind!

It's a must mod. Go for it. The pump and the fan are next on my list. Get Sal's fan, it is a whole lot cheaper (around $250) than JDM's (over $400) and just as good (no need for that expensive Spal fan) and get the pump from Lightningforce (around $100).

Less weight, rotating mass, improved cooling, and more hp.

I haven't installed the water pump yet, but I wanted the electric fan to be able to cool down quicker between rounds because I do alot of bracket racing. I personally don't think it is worth it for HP gains. In the end, I made my own for a little over $150, and it has worked great.

Thank you for the replies. I didn't know that psp had one for 250.00 (thats as good as sold) I am familiar with the electric fan and why we use it. I was just wandering if it really is worth the 18hp and 3 extra miles per gallon that they claim? Seems alittle high from what I have seen in other applications.

just as good
Have you compared both fans?

The JDM kit has a wiring harness that is plug-and-play.
I don't think anybody else has anything close to that.

Cool Fan/ water pump

LFP electric fan 18" plug & play. Also great pricing on Cobra-R aluminum water pumps.

Mark, isn't that a JDM fan kit, sold by you?

And how does the LFP Aluminum High Flow water pump differ from a Ford Cobra Water pump?

Man........the electric fan mod was the best mod I have ever done to my truck. I got the fan kit, water pump, and 160 thermostat.

I am not sure about Sal's fan, but JDM's fan kit comes with a toggle switch for those who like to cool down between rounds.

I think it was $400 well spent!!

The electric fan is a nice mod. I have it on both my trucks. If you are worried about price, just order some perma-cools, or equal and do your own wiring. Include a manual switch, and also a manual cut-off switch for when the air conditioner triggers the fans, and you are good to go.

Or one could call fordpartsonline.com and get the Cobra R water pump for $75.00...unless you have an extra $25-30 burning a hole in your pockets.

I got the electric fan out of a 98 Linoln Mark VIII and me and an electrician from work are putting together a kit to plug it into the factory wiring harness using Ford connectors etc... a total OEM quality job, I'm wiring two relays, one to a thermostat in the block and one to the A/C clutch circuit, so it'll turn on when ever it gets hot (on at 190, off at 160 I'm thinking) and will run at lower speed when the AC is on, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE MOTOR IS RUNNING, that way, between runs I turn the truck to ACC, turn the AC on (won't run in ACC, but the circuit is open) and the fan runs at reduced speed with engine off. The Licoln fan is a BEAST, 18 in diameter and draws 33 Amps at full speed, over 100 Apms at startup so it needs some pretty heavy wiring, but it moves 25% more air than any after market electric fan. Got a body shop fabbing me some brackets to mount the whole show to the radiator, shroud and all. I'll post pics when it's all done (if I can figure out how, but I did get a new digital camera).

I have very high hopes for this install.
Keep ya posted...

G

And for whoever thought I was marketing on this post, IT'S NOT FOR SALE, I WAS JUST DESCRIBING WHAT I"M DOING TO MY OWN F&^%$%G TRUCK!!!!

Jeesh!

Flash,

I've seen both of them and they both look great, but for the price difference I can add some electrical connections and hook it up myself. Not that hard.
