Borla Catback Installed (pics inside)
Pics of Borla Catback that I bought from truckperformance.com. A little slow getting here, I know some people have had problems dealing with them. But it got here, the hardest part was getting the old out.

Will try to get pics outside with tips. And at startup I got this nasty smell, is it supposed to do this, drove it around for 30 minutes and now the smell is almost gone.
Enjoy!

I had a Borla cat back on my 99 and the sound was just a little louder than stock no where near what a bassani sounds like!
The quailty of the borla is excellent but you will lose a little power from it because they claim it is a 21/2 muffler but when i got mine the first thing I noticed and the muffler shop is that the muffler is actually 21/4 through the center with the outer tips bumped up to 21/2

It is a little louder than stock, I like the sound. I heard that it takes a while to break in the muffler, and that it will get louder with tiime. Is that true? HIGH Roller, I didn't notice any difference on the assometer, so I don't think it makes that much of a difference, and I like these tips better than Bassani's and the price also.
The center of the muffler is equivelent to a 2 1/2 pipe. The "pipe" running through the muffler is perferated and does not restrict flow. I noticed no torque loss with mine and gained 1.5 mpg. This means I probably gained some top end hp. There is nothing wrong with the functionality of the Borla. As you begin to mod, this cat back should prove to be a good choice for performance on and off the track. Is it as loud as the Bassani? Nope? I think it has better sound "quality" though. Just "my" opinion on the sound though.
I was very disapointed in mine. I loved the tail pipes, but I could not tell any difference in sound then stock. After a few months, I just replaced the muffler with duel flowmaster Delta 40's and fell in love with the sound. Not too loud, but a nice rumble!! Something that the borla definatly did not offer, at least not on my L.
I have a Borla, stock, and a straight pipes in the garage. The straight pipes were the best for sound then Borla then stock. The Borla gave me less restriction than the straight pipes because the bends weren't mandrel on the straight pipes. I noticed this in the lost boost. Less boost less restriction.
I just went outside and compared the Borla to the stock system. The stock muffler has bigger in and out tubes than the Borla. Yes, the Borla uses thinner metal but the inside diameter is smaller also. I measured apprx. a 2.13 inch for the borla and a 2.28 inch for the stock. The area on the borla would then be 3.56in^2 and the stock 4.08 in^2. The stock system has a couple of not mandrel bends after the muffler also that may restrict some flow...When I get the next setup I'm going to make sure that it is bigger than both. Does anyone have the 3" pipes that rkkustom offers? The total area on a let's say 2.9" inside diameter pipe is something like 6.5 in^2. The price is high $695 and it doesn't even look polished. But I wonder if they help at all, combined with headers, big boost and a big 3"collector???

The smell is cosmeline(sp). It is put on everything meal so it will not rust while waiting to be put on. It stinks while burning off but it will stop.
