DJY1 or others: About your stereo...

Hey DJY1, I noticed that in your signature you say you have the MTX Thunderform and a couple of amps. I just got my Thunderform and am waiting on subs, but I was wondering where you put your amps? I have a Fosgate 250.4 and a 500.2 and they won't even come close to fitting under the seat, let alone anywhere else in the cab. I'm affraid I might have to put them in the bed. Does anyone else have a similiar setup that could help me decide where to mount these things? Thanks in advance.

I have the 3 10's behind my seat so i had no room for amps. I put the PPI 400 watt one on the back wall, just under the window and behind the passenger seat, the headrest covers most of it. The 800 Orion was a little harder to fit. The amp is relatively thin but long as hell. It fits under the passenger seat with the jack and everything removed. You might be able to fit a small amp or at least a crossover or something under the drivers side seat. Hope this helps.

Talking I'll show you the light brother!

Well I have 3 10"s also and I had the same concern as you with amps, and I run such large amps that I didn't know where to put the two of them. I have a ZX450 for the interiors and also a Kicker DX700 digital amp for the subs.

There is plenty of room under the passenger seat, you just have to get ride of the jack and other crap, ("stereo, jcak. STEREO").

The other amp is incorporated into a custom made enclosure by yours truely. I didn't know what else to do and I didn't want the stereo visable for people to see so I just made a slot for it and it works out perfect! That amp is behind my seat, you can barely se it in this picture. The other amp is under my seat too in this pic.

Nxsilversvt, What I did to mount the 2 amps was I relocated the jack. I have the jack and lug wrench in a nylon bag. I turned my spare tire around and placed the nylon bag with the jack and lug wrench and I store the jack and lug wrench inside my spare tire which is rolled all up to the stock postion. I relocated my stock CD changer to the middle section on the hump under the seat so I can still reach under to change the magazines for the CD changer. It is so much easier changing the Cd magazines than getting out of the truck and sliding the passenger seat up to change the magazines. I have 4 extra magazines. I have one amp under the drivers seat and one amp under the passenger seat. My seat can still slide how it was before the amps were mounted. When I was shopping around for amps I measured how much room I had under my seats and I measured the amps because if the amps were too tall the seat would not be able to slide back and forth. Hope this is some help.

The system I'm working on will have 2 - 12" SoloBarics in a custum MDF/fiberglass box. Each 12" will be behind the drvier and passenger with the two amps (Kicker DX700 and Kicker ZR240) mounted between the speakers. The DX700 will lay flat and the ZR240 will lay upright (perpendicular to the 700) next to the rear of the cab. This is a one piece box that connects the speakers. The DX700 to the subs and the ZR240 to the Kicker 6.5 Resolution components. Still working on finishing the box, plan on painting it black clearcoat like the L.

Ya I know it sucks but it works for me

I have a 6 channle fosgate amp currently its just driving the Thunder form subs. Till I get some good speakers.

It is under the passenger floormat tucked up as far as I could get it. It would not fit under the seats even with the jack out. With the mat over the amp if you did not know what the interior of a L was like you would not know it was there. It does not over heat and I dont have a passenger very often but even when I do they dont notice .

Just curious, how do 2 12's sound in our trucks compared to 3 10's??? Stereo equipment is a whole other language to me.

I had 1 12 in my old Camaro, and loved it...rattled my nose hair. I poeple like SVTGirl was working on 2 12's, do you have any picks '00Black??
Anyone have any suggestions?? (RTKilla, looks like you know your stereo stuff?)

Future plans, eventually, I want to upgrade to the Kenwood or Alpine DVD headunit, and add the navigation system (if you knew me, you'd understand!) And I want a good bass sound...something to rattle my windows(and nose hair)..

No pics yet as the box is not finished and the system is not installed. I have all the gear on hand and plan taking a week off mid Feb to finish the project. Will post when complete.

3 tens are going to be louder and tighter at the same time!

the two 12's will play deeper bass, but not much more compared to the 10's. the reason being is that the cab of our trucks is so small that the 12" woofers are to big for the wave to fully expand. All bass waves have to expand for them to reach there optimal sound. So if you have the windows open on your truck all the time, the 12" woofers should be cool and sound good. But if you live up north and it gets cold up here you don't want to have your windows down all the time to get maximum sound from your speakers. The 10"s will sound allot better then the twelves will when the windows of your truck are up.

When I first got my truck, the second day I put a system in it. 1 12" W6. then I got tired of that and went to a 12" alpine ZR. Got tired of that and went with a memphis 12"DVC. Then I built a new box with two 12"s and two memphis 12"DVC's. that sounded crappy so I built a new box and put 3 JL audio W0's 12ohms, not loud enough for my taste, so I pulled them and put in the JL W3's. Well I blew the one W3 cone out, so I went and bought a set of image dynamics small enclsure DVC 10's. they sound the best right now and I love them... Now I'm at the point where I'm designing a new box for 4 10" image dynamics small enclosure DVC's. I'll pull my DX700 and put that in the work car and put my ZX500 back in my truck. Witht he DVC's running at 2 ohms I should get about 1200 watts from the ZX500 and that's going to be sick!!!!!!

If I where you I would even consider the 12" woofers. there just to big for the truck, your going to loose seat space no matter what 12 you go with. The 10's are going to sound awesome and with the right box you'll loose no seat space!! TRUST ME! go with the image dynamics too! there cheaper then W3's or W6's and they sound better. I didn't believe it until I heard them too, so I know what your thinking. I used to be a JL audio person my life and still am. My 97 grand prix had 6 12" W6's and two ZX500 amps running them. THAT WAS LOUD!

it all depends on what you want.. i wanted 12's.
i live in louisiana.. my windows are down most of the time.
i didnt lose but a "click" or so of seat travel with my speaker box.
i pulled the carpet/trim off the back wall and gained about a inch more room.
i have dual voice coil 2 ohm speakers running at 2 ohm mono on a ZX600 amp (1200 watts @ 2ohm mono).

if i had to do it over, i'd prolly go with 2 10's.. i dont really listen to it that loud anymore. (i guess i'm getting old)
but the 12's have a really good "WOW" factor.
(i pull up the seat, and the kids at the hangout go "WOW"!) LOL

your results may vary.
