Angry %*&#^! Garage Door Spring Broke Loose!

Closed the door and heard this God awful noise!!! The
cable must have been broken because the spring was not
under tension, but it came crashing down!!! And my baby was
inside there!!!! I held my breath until I could open the door and see what damage there was. Well someone was watching over me because the spring hit the tonneau cover and kind of rolled off. It was lying on the floor next to the truck. Just a couple of small scratches on the side of the bed close to the cab. I have blisters on my knuckles, but you can hardly see the scratches. I'll work on it some more when my fingers are better.

It could have been a lot worse. I guess there wasn't any safety cables going thru the sping to prevent it from falling? For anybody who doesn't have the safety cable going thru the spings...get them.

Ouch sorry to hear. Makes me glad I got the screw drive opener (similar incident years ago in which spring broke and hit me in the head...)

You put crown molding in a garage? Your lightning must be treated very well!

Glad you and your truck are OK. People have gotten killed by those springs with tension on them. Bob.

Thanks Bob...Here's a link, only problem is you have to buy the door also. Opener only works on their system. http://www.wayne-dalton.com/resident...aster_body.asp

I've heard that God awful noise because it happened to me before. It sounds like a dat gum .12 gauge going off in your ear! I nearly sh#% in my pants when mine broke. I was standing right under the garage door. I'm lucky I jumped when I heard it break!

springs

spring broke on the door at work one day.....spring snapped and shot right into the hollow of a cinderblock....a 12 guage is a great comparison.....
