OT- Digital camcorders

I know there was a thread awhile back about cameras but the search is down. Can someone recommend a digital camcorder that has the ability to take stills, not over $650.00. Thanks in advance.

BTW- I'm a senior member now! Peace!

try the panasonic pv-dv601.i have last years model pv-dv 600 and love it .main reason i bought it was it was one of only a few that would let me copy my vhs tapes to convert them to digital.most dont let you do it.it does let you take stills but they are not the best in the world .buy a seperate camera if you really want good stills.i dont know what it cost now but its a great camera.

Thumbs up

We checked out digital cameras a couple months ago. The camera of choice for nearly every publication(Consumer Reports, etc) was the Canon G2. It's a little more than you wanna spend but the Canon G1 falls into your price range and was the top rated until the G2 came out. One big difference I liked is the viewscreen can be closed when not in use whereas all the others remained open to scratches, etc. Don't know where you buy from but I can highly recommend www.profeel.com for good service and prices. I've purchased a Sony Handicam and the Canon G2 and recieved both within 5 working days of purchase. One thing you need to watch with discount outlets is they try to sell you extra batteries, memory cards, etc. If you don't purchase these added accessories your camera suddenly is on backorder for the next couple weeks. Profeel isn't like that BTW, just wanted to give you a heads up. Here's the G1 for $597.95:

OOPS, sorry, I misread your post. Thought you wanted a camera. They do have good prices on camcorders there too though.

i bought my sony mini DV for about that price... got mine at circuit *****y. it is the trv-11. check around for some open box or even old unopened stock at the local electronics stores, they'll be looking to get rid of them in a hurry because inventory times are coming up in a couple of months

Another feature to consider is an analog in/out (or at least in) video port. That way you can hook up external cameras and mount them in unusual areas such as on the suspension, next to the brakes, etc. or simply duct-taped to your helmet or hood.
