Who has blown a tranny?
Just for the research of it, and maybe to let my uncle Henry know a few things, who has blown a tranny, what broke and what mods did you have. I'm kind of looking into what reliability issues I can address both my self and anything I think needs to be passed on to Ford I would do that, too. If this brings up some issues that could help build a better tranny I may be able to let some people know who would be in a position to help make the boxes more reliable.
To start off, I blew a completely stock tranny, showing off like a 16 year old kid in a parking lot, revved it up (like a dummy) and went to "neutral drop" it and missed the O position, went all the way to "2" and blew the seal on the forward clutch drum. Got it replaced under warranty.
The new one is significantly enhanced ( If I was gonna sell it it would be around $7500) and I doubt I'll have any more problems.
I no longer "show off" in parking lots.

First tranny went south (all clutch packs destroyed) at about 11K miles, following install of shift kit. Had an autologic chip then. Had it rebuilt by a local guy, who did a horrible job, only lasted another 4K miles. Don't know what all was wrong, but it wouldn't shift at all. Level 10 did the re-build, now it feels awesome, really snaps you back in the seat. It was very expensive, though, if I had had my VW then time would not have been an issue and I would have had you do it.
I've had 1 rebuild already and this tranny is OK, but its going to go pretty soon and its beat up bad with only 7K on it. First tranny lasted 30K though, half of that bone stock.
My mods: Its real fast, pulleys, chip, Nitrous, and gobs of other goodies!

mine took a dump a few months ago.
first thing i noticed The truck didnt shift the 1-2 when i was at full throttle once.
then it would act weird, sometimes not starting out in 1st and when id give it gas it would slam first and go.
I had a real bad Whining sound from The front of the trans, Sounded Like convertor whine BAD.
then it was the real Hard 1-2 shift, Sometimes chirping the shift.
All i had was 43k miles, air intake, Jl chip.
Fluid wasnt even burnt

My '99 tranny failed with just 3000 miles on it. It was prob. around mid June of '99. They just replaced the trans. The serv. man. and zone rep. tried to get me to pay for it and said it was from drag racing, don't think so! Warr. work. There were no mods done to it at the time, don't even think there were chips out yet then.
The trans. wouldn't start to move the truck until about 1800 rpms from a stop. It started doing it after cruising on the highway at about 90 for about 15 miles. Got off the exit and it then started when I tried to leave the stoplight.

I killed mine!!! I will be able to put everyone in touch with the TRANS guy that builds the racing 4R100 for the factory Off road race team once mine is fixed and I have the details. Yes, there are magic parts available thru this guy. The Ford DURALAST Trophy Truck runs the same trans and big time money has been spent to make it last in the Desert races. I will forward the info once mine is fixed within the next few weeks, Chet
Mine went out with only a Pro-M MAF, JL Ram Air, and lower blower pulley..thats all it was at the time. The service rep told me the second gear itself broke.
Was replaced under warranty without any problems since then.
